Role of different communities in communal harmony

Was reading some stuff (fiction) where history of Sikh-Muslim (Mughal) rivalry was discussed. The writer tried to put blame of this rivalry (incident of murder of Sikh Guru Arjun during Jehangir’s reign) on a Hindu Laala Chandu Laal, due to personal grudges (Guru rejects Lala’s daughter’s marriage proposal with his son). Writer made a point that Sikhism and Mughal kingdom started at same time (Babar and Guru Nanak were contemporaries) and Akbar allocated lands to 4th Guru, who earlier earned his bread and butter by selling eggs to prove that there was harmony and mutual respect for each other.

Sikhs got a different version of history.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the Apostle of Peace - Martyrdom

To cut it short, there is a tradition / custom in sub-continent that communities blame others for sour relationship with certain communities due to wrong-doings of that other community.. like in Sikh-Muslim rivalry, Hindus are made responsible.

Whats your views on this attitude?

Do different communities of sub-continent ever tried to reconcile historical differences they have with other communities or tried to play serious role in resolving misunderstandings among other communities?

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

One of the most destructive human pastime is blame game. It has been responsible for Mass casualities. I take it as a sign of human frustration and unhappiness. People think, they are always right and other side wrong (specialy in subcontinent). That is human nature. It will never change. There has been an increase in this attitude and It will lead to clash of civilizations...

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

If I remember right, Guru Arjan also gave protection to some one opposed to Jahangir, and Jahangir couldn't distinguish between Sikhs and Hindus as Sadhus and Sikhs looked similar. Plus Sikhi was as organized as formidable religion upto Guru Gobind singh's Khalsa :)

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

Are you talking about Khusrau (Jehangir's son)?

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

When the king of Umerkot Rana Prasad gave asylum to Humayun and his pregnant wife(Akbar was in gestation) and she gave birth to Akbar there.

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

But Sindhis perceived Mughal invasion and they destroyed their homes / properties to avoid Mughal invasion at that time. Mughals could invade Sindh during Akbar's reign. Akbar was born in Sindh, but he took side of Arghoons and finally conquered Sindh to make it a Mughal province.

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

Yes. But not Umerkot. It remained elusive for all conquerors.

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

May be it was part of Rajhistan during Mughal era

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

I don't understand blaming another community for your own wrongdoing. It's like in partition with Punjab the rivalry and death toll was strong mostly between Sikhs-Muslims. Yet what is the point of blaming a 3rd party
But then for some reason Hindus become Hanood but there is no Sikh version of Yahudi or Hanood when they were involved in partition, indian army and ruling indian gov.

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

Your are still at it? :emmy:

Re: Role of different communities in communal harmony

Its because muslim never thought that Sikhism would be much larger challange. Hinduism remained as formidable as ever through Muslim rule in India. Pundas formed Bhakti movement to counter sufis then.

Now they are fighting against Sai Baba, soon there will be another ideological all out war with them :)
