Not sure, it might do well due to nostalgic reasons, but I think it’ll do better as a DVD rental than at the box office.

the film is likely to be more of a box office hit...they have already come out and stated this is the last ever rocky and the timing of release of the christmas and holiday period clearly means that this film is headed to be a box office hit. All the previous rocky's were actually bigger box office hits than on dvd...its only in recent times when the release of limited edition rocky dvds has come out that there has been an upturn in dvd sales and rentals for rocky. Why do u think it will be better as a dvd rental fret??

well he does'nt say hes doing steroids,hes actually come up with a line of supplements that he says he uses to keep in shape. taking steroids while being monitored by physician is probably what hes doing...that way its safer

Then I suppose you’re not old enough to know that the previous Rocky films were released before the DVD technology existed. These days, more and more people are waiting for the DVD release. Why? Simple, DVD’s are released quite quickly after a movie has completed it’s runs in theatres, unlike in the 80’s. DVD’s also have special features as compared to their VHS counterpart. VHS rentals pale in comparison to DVD rentals. Why do you think some films are release straight to DVD? Because they’ll know it’ll be more successful as a rental than box office release. Recent low budget horror film releases have proven the DVD success rate over the box office.
The Rocky Box sets are simply the result of lucritive DVD market.

ok my fault dvds werent out for early editions but i meant to say vhs and if you actually research u will find that dvd's are at an all time low on sales and rentals becaz of the sheer mass of pirate copies that are available. Also. if u knew as much as u make out u know then u wud know that DVDs arent on average released officially till 6-8months after the cinema release..whereas pirate versions can be purchased within weeks of release...so yeh dvds are popular but only the pirates...not many sales are made from originals...why do u think there have excessive piracy adverts which seem to be more n more advertised becaz the situation is getting worse...therefore your theory of dvds being more succesful is absolute rubbish....

Hey genius, I’m not talking about pirates versions. If you read my post correctly, my comparison was to VHS. Back in the day when the Rocky films were out, successful movies lasted sometimes over a year in theatres, and took even longer to be released on VHS. If people wanted to see a movie, they had to see in theatres, or wait well over a year or two before watching it on video. Nowdays, a film’s run in the theatres is peanuts, and shortly after the DVD is available for sale and rental. As for your reference to pirated copies, it just confirms the fact that people would rather not go see movies in theatres, and wait for either a DVD or a pirated copy. My example to rentals being more successful than theatrical releases was in reference to recent horror films, specifically cult horror movies which survive, yes survive only on their DVD sales, not their theatrical release. Companies like Anchor Bay were/are successful in re-releasing old classics on DVD, and then releasing the same DVD’s in al altered version only a few months apart, and still with successful sales. Regardless of theives pirating movies, there will always be a market for original copies, capiche?

Not every movie is more successful on DVD, but some of them are. I’m anticipating this move to be so. A movie only has a limited life in theatres, it then becomes available for rental, forever. Now over a long period of time, a given movie may surpass it’s sales figure in rentals. Most people who want to rent a movie on a Friday night don’t think about looking for it on the internet to download, unless they’re retarded. They’d rather just go to the video store and rent the thing for a few dollars.
