NEW DELHI: A rocket carrying an Indian communication satellite exploded just after liftoff Saturday in the second launch failure for India’s space agency this year.
Television images showed the rocket exploding in smoke and fire just after it launched from the Sriharikota space center in Andhra Pradesh state. It was carrying a GSAT-5P communication satellite into orbit.
The vehicle developed an error 47 seconds after liftoff and lost command, leading to a higher angle in the flight, said K. Radhakrishnan, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization.
”That caused a higher stress, breaking up the vehicle,” Radhakrishnan told reporters.
In April, a similar rocket on a developmental flight plunged into the Bay of Bengal. The ISRO said its rotor seized and turbine casing ruptured, probably due to excessive pressure and thermal stresses.
Yashpal, a retired Indian scientist and independent commentator, said he was very disappointed by Saturday’s failure, but other countries too have experienced such problems.
”I hope it’s just one of those things,” Yashpal, who uses one name, told reporters.
India is planning its first manned space flight in 2016.
An Indian satellite launched in 2008 to orbit the moon was abandoned last year after communication links snapped and scientists lost control of the satellite.
India is the fifth country after United States, Russia, China and France to enter the commercial satellite launch market.
The country has sought to convert its rise as an economic power built on a thriving high-tech sector into global clout in other areas.
Since 1994, India’s space program has launched a number of Indian-made satellites. It’s also been able to launch nine successful space flights consecutively.

Glad nobody died.
C’mon guys give it a rest theres no point in always stabbing at India and it’s people we have our own problems to sort out… at least they can launch a satelite or attempt to at least…
Re: Rocket with Indian satellite explodes after launch
^ Precisely...
Besides why are some Pakistani's so fascinated by whats going on over the border... the only thing we should be worried about is homeland security and if there was a potential of invasion a strong homeland can organise a suitable resistance, rather than a weak homefront and a bold face.

I wonder why are you so Upset or worried about anyone bashing bharat over this catastrophe ??? I have not seen any negative comments here after your 'Post#2, ?
And WHAT THE HELL DRONES have to do with this thread ? , please explain and enlighten us ,
Re: Rocket with Indian satellite explodes after launch
Its about time we stopped worrying about India and concentrated at home.
Exactly what I've been saying all along....

Offcourse I'm upset that a neighbouring nation has had a disaster... true Indians might hate the hell out of me but I wont hate a whole nation becuase of a few idiots....We have plenty back home...
As for drones how many fly over India? Pakistan is a victim of global terrorism more than anyone, we should have a space program of our own...
Re: Rocket with Indian satellite explodes after launch
Koi gal nahi badshaho , one day they will be able to achieve that , they achieved a lot already in many fields. We the Pakistani can get inspiration from our neighboring country and aim high too.

Correct ! It was due to India's regional ambitions that drove Pakistan to be a nuclear state, otherwise we don't need nukes for progress and money spent better else where!
I'm sure Pakistan weighing their options on such matters all the time. Questions is Ho0w Pakistan feasibly benefit from such space programs.
IMO,,,Pakistan does not need such a program, but that does not mean they should not acquire the technology and knowledge like in other fields

India space program is a gift of the world.. I don't think Pak can justify such a program given the requirements can be met with a little help from our friend(s) :) China.

ghauri missile can reach a distance of 4500km so all we need to do is add a small gyro to it and make sure after firing it,it travels vertically for 300 km's...thats it but we dont need to waste our resources when we can pay for and receive services from whats already in orbit.
Considering india has more hugary and starving people then entire african continent, its quite ironic they are wasting their resources on these fire displays
