Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

It’s about time they found an alternative. I can’t believe the UAE government (if there is one) has allowed small children to be kept practically as slaves for so long. My aunt who’s a doctor in Dubai was telling me of the cases she sees daily, as child jockeys come in with broken bones and limbs.

**Robot jockeys to ride Gulf camels **

The United Arab Emirates says it will use robots as jockeys for camel races from next season.
The move comes after widespread international criticism of the use of young children to ride camels during the long and often hazardous races.

Officials say a prototype of the robot was successfully tested on Saturday.

Aid workers say there are up to 40,000 child jockeys working across the Gulf. Many are said to be have been kidnapped and trafficked from South Asia.

The issue of child camel jockeys has been an embarrassing one for the Emirates, says the BBC’s Gulf correspondent Julia Wheeler.

Camel racing is one of the UAE’s traditional sports and an important part of the region’s heritage.

Royals impressed

One in a series of laws was introduced this month to forbid the use of jockeys under the age of 16 from taking part in the sport.

Now it seems there will be no need for the rules to be flouted, our correspondent says.

Mechanical light-weight jockeys have been designed for the purpose to be used in the races.

“The mechanical jockey is light in weight and receives orders from the instructor via a remote control system fixed on the back of the camel,” the daily Gulf News said, quoting an official statement.

At a test in the Emirates, members of the royal family of Abu Dhabi said they were impressed.

And the idea is likely to be received positively by human rights groups, says our Gulf correspondent.

They say several thousand boys, some as young as four, work as jockeys - many after being abducted or sold by their families.

They say the boys are kept in terrible prison-like conditions where they are deliberately underfed to keep them light so the camels can run faster.

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

ok catty, so this is old news, & u stumble upon it now...anyway, so u assume there is no government, u just made a laughing stock of urself...under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammad, Dubai has seen more growth than India or Pakistan combined in the past 10 years. They are relentlessly trying to find other sources of income & they are doing an Xcellent job at it. Although it is their government, made by their people, & working for their people, I dont see a single flaw in what is wrong with their system.

They are rich, they have the money, they bought all those poor balochis & makranis & made them race...u want to know the really hurting truth, the kids parents want to sell them for the money...coz our government cant find any means of improving the basic necessities of the poor balochis & makranis in Pakistan, so u tell me which government is better.

Coming back to ur 2nd point, yes its quite pathetic with the kids jockeys here, but at least there has been an initiative, so now the kids will go back, they will reunite, & they will die in poverty just like the others, & our government will continue governing as it is & will not do anything to improve the health & education conditions there...!

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

ok mal1k now you can go back to Pakistan. They don't need you anymore in Dubai.

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

Agent Smith, I’ve been promoted already u knucklehead, I manage all their camels from the comfort of my custom built XXXL E class built specially for me, now I’ve been reassigned to manage the network of these e-jockeys

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

a big step for mankind. now we won’t hear anything bad against the OIL-RICH ANGELS for the next decade or so. lets ignore everything else. :nook:

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

mal1k, I don't see anyone laughing except for you and ironically, the rest of your statements make me want to laugh at you.

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

no honey, its not a laughing matter, being a Pakistani, I am ashamed at the system of governance in Balochistan, coz all they have done is deprive them of their dues & royalties.

I criticized ur statement in which u "thought" there is no government here, u were here in Dubai 3yrz back, come & visit now, u'll see a world of a difference, both in infrastructure & communications. Now this is a government acting upon its policies, combined with a vision of growth & prosperity for its people...this is what u call a government working for their people, not like ours, selling our kids to them rich bundos, & doing nothing to prevent it.

They have taken the initiative, & its good, something for the government of Pakistan to feel worried about.

So go ahead laugh all ur heart out, u havent seen the reality

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

The only comment I'd like to add is that I doubt that robots could ever replace camels in an Arab's heart.

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

Since you guys seem very knowledgable about the whole camel-racing scene, so let me ask a basic question here.

Why did they use kids on camels, in the first place?

Obviously the kids can't be trained jockeys... so is it that the kids' cries for help made camels run faster? Or do camels not run at all, unless there is someone sitting on them and they wanted to put the lightest person they can find i.e. kids?

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

Sawal bhi khud poochtay hain aur jawab bhi khud hi deytay hain…tau phir sawal kiyoun poocha. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes the answer is because the kids are light & they are easily trained to run a camel. The camel runs for several hours, with the banana milk sheikh’s in their 4WDs running parallel just for the fun of it…

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

using your logic( that those children are poor hence Sheikhs are doing a favor on them) can I justify prostitution?

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

so why doesnt the sheikh put one of his own three dozen kids on the camel?

Re: Robots to replace Child Camel Jockeys

^^ The banana milk shake has a hard time finding his wives forget the kids alone...Once the Kuwaits screwed up pea eyed banana sheikh was visiting a girl's college for grad ceremony & he admired a girl & immediately asked to inquire who her parents her, so he can get married...upon investigations, she turned out to be her own child...!

Bitter - That is an incorrectly assumed logic
