road trip during pregnancy?

How safe is to do a week long road trip in the first or second trimester of the pregnancy assuming everything is normal? Any personal experiences? Any long road trips that you or someone you know have done?

would you rather do a road trip in pregnancy? or wait for the baby to arrive?

and yes it’s purely for fun n sight seeing!

ps: Before anyone says anything, no I am not pregnant!

Re: road trip during pregnancy?

I've been on several road trips, but in my second and third trimester....8-12 hours trips. My doc just asked me to stop every few hours and take a walk, stay hydrated and stretch. If there are no medical conditions, it's really not an issue.

Re: road trip during pregnancy?

Consult your doc before going but I think most women don't have any issues.

Pack anti nausea medicine and prenatal. Make sure you get plenty of rest even on the trip.

Re: road trip during pregnancy?

I was wondering about the same thing. I am pregnant and its my third trimester. I wanted to take mini vacation with my husband and plan a road trip.

Mine is a high risk pregnancy. No I am not in bed or anything, just something that came up in my scan related to baby. But I don't have to take any precautions for it. Its just something they want to see when the baby is born. So, is it okay for me to take road trip?

Re: road trip during pregnancy?

Spiral.. I will say check with your doctor!! I believe what I have seen on other forums is that if you take break every 2 hours just to stretch your legs and keep hydrated, it should be okay!!!

I dunno why but I always thought that in third trimester you can go into labor anytime!! I guess not!

Re: road trip during pregnancy?

it depends on the road conditions...NEVER in Pak or India

Re: road trip during pregnancy?

Yes, I have taken road trips while pregnant. If there are no medical complications like bed rest etc. and you are not feeling nauseaous it fine. My last pregnnacy I took a vacation in teh second trimester and felt fine, later in the third trimester we had to do some sudden travelling and that was hard. Both trips were 8-10 hours one way. You must however, get out and walk every 2 hours as teh risk of getting blood clots in your lega is higher during pregnnacy and that could be dangerous.
