"Rishta" Moments

Since Munni is up in arms with her rishta coming, I wanted to know about YOUR experiences with your “ristha.” Funny, embarassing, sweet..etc

Cool topic Hinna, lets see what everyone says!

I will share what happened with the first rishta I ever saw. I didnt know he was even coming until I overheard my dad tell my brother on the phone just a few days before.

Anyway, so he is talking to my brother and bhabi as we were the only ones at home that time. The conversation is moving along and I'm there just staring towards the ceiling and walls with my dupatta and amreeki clothing on. I hadnt said anything for the first few hours except Salam. He looked directly at me and asked my brother, "Is she a mute, I haven't heard her say a word the whole time?". Then he went on to say that he had never met anyone who doesnt speak, and he cajoled me, asking if I know how to speak/talk. sad face

We ended up talking a little bit and parted our separate ways. It was very obvious that we were no match. smile

One more quick one!

Once, there was a rishta who had come from afar and he was sitting on the couch with his dad next to him. Mom asked me to make and serve chai. I served his dad fine. When I was walking with the cup and saucer towards the rishta, my hands started shaking so much that it looked like a mini-earthquake erupted under the saucer. Chai/tea went every which way including on the floor and on the rishtas shoes. It was HORRIFIC! My brothers were laughing and mom was apologizing for the next minute or so. The rishta was nice enough to joke about it later that day. Meanwhile I blushed at the thought of the whole incident! smile

Munni,
You sure have had some funny/embarrassing moments

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

I think that the second one has to be the ultimate. You know you should be brave enough to throw all the tea and stuff on him instead of getting you hands shaking.

Not to get a serious discussion started but I wish we could do away with these plain stupid (in my view) rituals of putting the girls to test in front of total strangers and observing their performance. Its just so demeaning to the girls.

So what you wanted to See good has made you blind
And what you wanted to Be yours has made it Mine
So don’t you lock up Something that you
Wanted to see fly
Hands are for shaking No not tying
I sure don’t Mind a change But I fell on black Days
How would I know That this could be My fate

Ok, Excuse my EXTREME american bluntness, but I've looked it up online, and I've read all these posts and I can't seem to get a clear definition. What is a Rishta?

Stephie,

I believe I am using an incorrect term, atleast thats what guppies have told me.

Technically, ristha means proposal.

I have been using the term rishta as the person who brings a proposal to my house. Meaning someone who is interested in getting to know my family for marriage purposes.

.

embarassing…went inside the room with a tray of chai, unconsciously slammed the tray on the table and ran out…I think everyone stopped talking for a minute or so.

The minute i was told some kharoos was coming to see me, i ran off and hid under the bed. Gharwalay thought I had run away from home and after getting rid of the guests as soon as possible they all set out on their motorbikes, cars and on foot to find me while all the time i was sleeping under the bed.
Much to my dismay the dheet was back the very next day and i ended up marrying him

his dhitia actually got to me, i was intrigued, kay dekhoon to janab main aisi kya khasiyat hay
but I had to stand my ground

so all in all there were seven ppl including him who had come and when it came to serving drinks, i started serving them from one side of the room, served chatted and smiled with all the ladies then very politely put the tray down and left the room, leaving the men to get their own drinks
He was left hakka bakka

Then it was my turn to be left hakka bakka when his mum put the ring on my finger and stuffed ladoo in my mouth. Though i didnt complain about the karakdar 5000 ka note she placed in my muthi

Time passes but it leaves precious memories for us to cherish and enjoy for the rest of our lives

5000 hmmmmm… did you get married in Italy?
