I’m starting a new projects where I want to convert all my CD’s to MP3s. With Google Music providing all the storage I could need and the desire to have all my (legal) music available all the time I thought this would be a good time.
I have started testing dBPowerAmp and it seems to be doing a good job. Creating dynamic folders under the main one, creating folders by singer and album. It downloads graphics and all album details from online databases. Ofcourse the desired rip is at 320 kbps but it takes a lot of room. This software also comes with a converter utility with which you can create a less heavy bitrate copy of the songs.
Has anyone else done a project like this? Wanna share you choice of software and procedure?
I used MusicMatch Jukebox which came with my iPod before iTunes for PC was available. It did the same, create folders, generate file names, attach metadata, etc. I believe another company bought the software and re-marketed it as something else.
Also, have you head of www.last.fm? You install a small utility on your computer and every time you listen to your music, the utility updates last.fm servers of your played songs, then when you login to last.fm from any other computer, you can play back the same music from their servers without the need to upload your music online, although an online library does also function as a backup repository.
I haven’t head of Google Music, will look into it.
