Many people I know migrated from East Punjab. I can tell you, the rioting was so bad that even extremely well off muslims who had their business interests in India had *no option *but to leave. Lots died. Its called "rioting" but as the poster has insinuated, it was more along the lines of ethnic cleansing. A really dark chapter in human history, but one which sadly remains much in the dark.

Icono, asking for a proof here is like asking someone to prove 2+2 is 4 or the sun rises from the East.

I hope you have read enough history to know that West Punjab cities were filled with hardworking non-Muslim Punjabis. Just do google for the hospitals and colleges and you will find places like Diyal Singh, Ganga Raam, Gulab Devi etc. Where are their founders and the founders decedents?

They are all gone. All of them cleansed ethnically. There are zero% non-Muslim Punjabis in West Punjab who are direct decedents of the 1947 generation. Is zero% not a proof enough?

Off course we have to mourn the Muslim Punjabis too, who were cleansed from the E. Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal. Before 1947 these states had 60% Muslim Punjabis , and now they are down to zero.

It is incorrect to bring in the talk about UP riots. Sure they happened. However Muslim UPis still exist and still in very very large numbers. The mosques, the schools for Muslims are intact. However Punjab truly suffered holocaust of epic proportions. This is unlike any other region of 1940s British India.

However the purpose of this discussion was not to start arguments about something so obvious as the holocaust of Punjab.

The idea was to show the mindset of Indians about their attitude towards Pakistan. They still feel Pakistanis "took" away the parts of Bharat Mata. This is just like Arabs who still feel that Israelis "took" away parts of Arab land.

Statements of Nehru and Patel about Pakistan were just like the statements made by Arab nationalists like Bu Madian, Gamal Nasir etc about Israel.

India has constantly tried to undermine much smaller Pakistan and in fact it cut Pakistan into two.

The same way Arabs have constantly tried to undermine Israel.

Thus Pakistan and Israel both have suffered by the negative attitude of 10-20 times bigger neighbors.

The difference between Pakistan and Israel is that Israel from day 1 tried to achieve technical capabilities while civilian Israelis ALWAYS keeping the West close by.

Pakistan has suffered because civilian-Pakistanis and Non-Resident Pakistanis have not been smart enough to ALWAYS keep the West close by.
