Even places like Somalia, Palestine, etc have more athletes than the Pakistani team, the pak team has more officials than athletes.

Did anyone see the baba's (officials) in the team in opening ceremony, must be loving the TA/DA and stay in Rio and all that.

Patheticness if you ask me. Other countries getting bigger contingents (more athletes and more games) while the Pak ones keep shrinking. That tells u the level of sports in pak.
Pakistanis are only good at corruption and beards ??

Yess, i was soo disappointed to see Pakistani squad, rather shocked is the proper word. Even countries like Bhutan or Maldives might have more. You can actually count them in a quick glance.

Maybe to fight climate change Pakistan sent a small contingent?

Field hockey is not the skill game it used to be. Growing up, we played it the way it was supposed to be played. No astroturf. We had bully off to start the game. Even penalty corners were bully off. Then the west changed the rules. Penalty corners were simpky push to player at top of circle and hit (yes this happened while I was playing). Then astro turf. Now players just hit from one end to other. Scoops. The reverse stick shots. It is a joke. There hardly appears to be any wrong side. Just slam bam thank you maam

Hockey is virtually dead in Pakistan. There is no interest left in this sport. The numbers of players of this sport are less than 1000 now! Karachi used to have a lot of clubs - like Pak Flag but now no more. Hockey is only left in Gojra now.

It is better to convert hockey stadiums into football clubs - the sport is much cheaper than hockey. And we should save money wasted on artificial turfs of hockey - better give that money to schools.

Becuz all the old grounds and fields are now making money by getting converted into either commercial apartment buildings or shadi hall.

And then the ulitmate selection bhai-bandi sealed the deal and as you said its totally dead in Pak.

I was reading somewhere that even Bermuda had larger squad than us. May be all Pakistanis should pick some other countries' teams and cheer for them.

There is no more interest for the young lot from mddle and lower class to play hockey ( or any other game ) as they cannot run their home based on hockey.
The athletes who representing pk are below the standard and not gonna produce any result ( I am not talking about medals rather promostion of game in PK ) . These are players using their links for joy trips and prdocuing last positions.

Or other single person games...

These companies spend billions in marketing and what not...but wont sponsor a player

On the same note, there is olympic assosiation in Pakistan...they are busy fighting for perks...and with this performance they should be jailed for causing embarassment to Nation

If you guys hadn't split and gone off on your own, you would have been able to rule the world in archery. For who can compete with the land that gave birth to Satyaki, Karna, Arjuna, Drona, Bhishma, and Kripacharya.

We haven't even mentioned Sri Krishna, Lakshmana,.Parasurama and Sri Rama.Any of the above can win you a Gold.

But did you listen?

West has converted most of the sports into science rather than remain an art. Hence u need very costly equipment / gear to compete at top level.

Hence only chance for poor countries in games which are played at invidual level with out need of some special gear. Look at marathon . Still porr african countires producing players who are winning only based on the passion of running.

Passion for games and sports already died in paksitan due to the politics of sports federations.

Sports in supposed to be for health and fun. The Olympics represent none of this. Just competition. Who has access to expensive eqiomne t swimming pools etc. Onky devel p led nations

Sports are for fun and enjoyment...now it is made business...corporations control them...

Indian hockey one of the worst
..just got in because they can get more viewership...more sponsorship...

The day India and Pakistan were eliminated from world cup...ICC made sure it nevers happen again as iy hurts its financial interest...

Olympic size is not affordable...nor many other sports in olympic....

Then why we participate in them...why not it be league of ecomomically developed nations?

Good question. Olympics is a waste of money. And resources. And adds to emissions.
