^Sawry sis, I read this wrong.....I was talking about wife rather then offspring of the couple.

I saw a hadith from Al-bukhari somewhere that a husband can enforce his wife to change her last name.

I'm not aware of that hadith. I've always heard or read that it is forbidden to take anyone's name as your sirname or last name besides his/her own father.....may be except in few cases.
