Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Religion

Sound familiar?

While this mirrors the position held by many here, this concerns conservatives in the US. They want to amend the Constitution to create an official Religion.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

Good for USA…

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

I will see you in the parking lot!

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

bill maher would make a nice american pope. i’d convert for him <3

Yeah yeah…mirror this, dig that..

I am in 100% favour of having an official religion. It should be ‘the force’

Btw this mirrors points held by me.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

"force"ful points.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

On a more serious note, Bill Maher, Sam Harris, and Richard Dawkins are among a group of prominent fundamentalist atheists who are (almost) as bad as religious fundamentalists. I like Bill Maher’s take on a lot of political issues but his hypocrisy in some areas is disappointing.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

well they are “bad” in the sense they keep actively wanting to debate theists and try to convert the lay masses. most atheists usually are ok with just being left alone. but hey.. at least they haven’t started weekly sermons demanding lynching etc. i wouldn’t say they are anywhere near as bad as religious fundamentalists, just loudmouth irritants who won’t respect other peoples gods.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

I think conversions would be a lot more successful were they not as abrasive as they are. All they do right now is enable semi intellectual keyboard atheists.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

i agree, but hey.. i dont think a-hole atheists are all that much of an anomaly as say a murderous buddhist monk, or sniper guns with bible verses on them. but yeah, i personally would rather be franships with a nice smileyface nun than a relentlessly argumentative atheist.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

Lol true. I’m not saying religious nuts are better, I just wish the crazies on both sides would calm down a bit and recognize that agnostic theism is where it’s at. :smokin:

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

relentlessly argumentative athiests
Agnostic theism

You guys trying to up the grading curve?

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

Having grown up in a country with an official religion (the UK, where the state religion is the Anglican Church), I’ve never understood what the big deal is about it.

If anything, having official recognition for religion is a help to the Muslim church. Combining the values of a state religion with that of not discriminating against religions, you end up with the situation whereby the government funds schools of religious minorities, including state-funded Muslim, Jewish and Hindu schools.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

Except the attitude is far different. There has been talk in the UK about removing Christianity as the state religion. Meanwhile in Pakistan…lol.

You’re right, it can work if the attitude of the people is tolerant but that’s often not the case. It’s usually only the most fundamentalist followers who wish to establish state religions. Most people are ambivalent about the status quo.

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

in the UK the church is a nationalistic symbol of the anglo-saxons and their kingdom and what not - having its roots in the king deciding he didn’t like influence from rome. the tolerance of plurality, which in itself is a relatively recent occurance with respect to the time frame of the anglican church’s existence, is not a result of having a state religion. rather it has happened despite the state religion, and is an example of the erosion of the anglican church’s power over English society.

and on this side of the pond, many of the US’ founding fathers like Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, were rationalists who weren’t particularly impressed by organized religion or the church, and didn’t hide their disdain for it. why would you revert back to the dark ages after getting a clean progressive head-start that set the US up for pole position in the modern world?

Re: Right wing Conservative Fundamentalists want to establish official National Relig

I though the US had a state religion: Capitalism.
