Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

salam
well i just wantd to ask if the followong cities are ok (and safe!) to apply to for a muslim girl, and also if there’s a muslim(ahlussunah) community there-big or small. and if there’s an academy or somthin in those cities whre thy teach islamic eduaction.
hull, edingbrg, glasgw, cardff, swnsea, belfast
and i’d appreciate if u recommend some uni names

Re: right city to apply to a uni in uk for a muslim female

all the above you mentioned are good for muslim women except the University of Sheffield....besides Bath University is very good but it also depends on the subjects you want to study.

Why do u think univ of sheffield is not good for muslim women? I study there and I think its perfectly ok for muslim women to study there.

Re: right city to apply to a uni in uk for a muslim female

I've heard about the night life around that area and lots of dodgy people in the Uni....

Hull...uni of hull has a good reputation but the city is not very nice. I think its the poorest big city in the UK. Not much of a muslim community. My brother went there and lasted 6 weeks and then transferred to leicester.

Endibugh...Excellant city and all the universities have a great reputation. Big muslim community and you should find just about everuthing.

Glasgow...Again good universities and a big muslim community. Parts of Glasgow are a little rough but most cities in the world have their dodgy areas.

Cardiff...great uni and good city. Plenty of muslims.

Swansea...not too sure although the muslim community is relatively small.

Belfast...its not on the mainlaind great britain. I think the asian community there is very very small and cant imagine many mosques. Although universities are good.

I would avoid Hull, Belfast.

What are going to be studying? Good Luck

Re: right city to apply to a uni in uk for a muslim female

OMG :hayaa:

Sheffield University is Great!!! I have nieces and nephews that have studied Medicine there… they have an excellent Muslim community and University Islamic Society there… and i also heard that Sheffield was named the safest city in the UK a while back :hmmm:

Other than that, i would recommend Imperial, being an alumni of that Uni…but i would need more info on what course you are thinking about applying for to give you the best options…

To be honest, there will be a “night life” wherever you choose to study…the UK is not an Islamic state and life will not stop because you dispprove.. you just have to avoid it and focus on your studies.

Re: right city to apply to a uni in uk for a muslim female

i think i'm confusing sheffield with some other uni....but it was definitely in north.

Re: right city to apply to a uni in uk for a muslim female

University of Central Lancashire in Preston - I can highly recommend

may be you are confusing with! Sheffield Hallam Uni

Re: right city to apply to a uni in uk for a muslim female

^ :omg:

Yep… i have heard many a story, courtesy of my nieces and nephews, about their counterparts at Hallam…

Re: Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

Of those.. I suggest Eding, or Cardiff/glasgow- I think the first two are good campus unis. I don't like the temperatment of Sheffied myself. It's too middle-england - its more a place I'd like to end up in with 2.5 kids than as a student. Also stay away from Hull. It's in the middle of no where and it isn't getting anywhere else fast.

Re: Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

in these Hull, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Swansea, Belfast

Choose Glasgow and Edinburgh if only above you are interested.

almost all the unis in UK has Islamic and Pakistani societies. you should choose uni on the basis of the subject and course you are interested in.

London is not bad choice at all. it has lot to offer along with its rich blend of communities all over London.

without prejudice, in my personal experience i felt islamic societies in uni and communities in midland and north england are very rigid and sometime fundamentalists and backward as well.

its also same in some parts of London, but you also find very good ones too.

and stay away from Hull...:S

thanx for teh info..all of a sudden am really not sure what i want to do. chemical enigineering or aerospace engineering. am very confused

i would have love dto go to imperial but my grades are not good enough:(..i’d go for glasgow/cardif/edingbrg as most of the guppies have recommended it and i have heard the same from my some of my mates.
night life is really not a problem as it’s all present in the country i’ve spent half of my life in..the reason i want to be in an area where there’s a muslim community is that i need to join a part time islamic education course

and thank you all for replying. all the info is truly useful

Re: Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

Kings College, London.

Re: Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

Any particular reason of choosing UK?

If not and you are able to get be acceptance, then i would suggest you to consider Singapore. Only if you could get an admission in either NTU/NUS/SMU.

These are world class universities, plus one of the safest country in the world where a lady could walk alone at mid night without fear.

Closer to home (Only 6 hours flight for Karachi/Lahore)
They even offer to selective education grant to oversea students including loans for tuition fee (selected and subject to working in Singapore after graduation, would give your permanent residence as well).

Muslim are 20% of populations, thus halal food is freely available, most fast food McDonald, KFC, PizaHut and Burger KIng only sales Halal food.

For more information please see my post in other thread "plz help me out"

Re: Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

oh no i have no other choice but uk or the country i am in(and quality of education here is not good as far as science lab based courses are concerned

and besides uk is closer from home as i dont live in pakistan:)

Re: Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

anyone got an idea about uni of strathclyde?..

Re: Right City to apply to a University in UK for a muslim female

I wouldnt recommend Hull!

My friend comes from there and he says its a place with lots of muslims but not good muslims.

The city has alot of crime and isnt very safe.

Birmingham. Leicester and Nottingham in the midlands are great!

All the others you have mentioned are pretty good :)

Leeds is excellent too.
