CB thread on right age for career choice made me think of this.
Say you look around and you see that this new field is hot and you are missing the train.
The kind of thing which happened from 96 to 2000 when people were switching careers left and right.
Doctors were becoming Database Administrators. Electrical Engineers were becoming HR specialist etc etc.
Some thought they were too old to switch their career now. But some daring souls as old as 60 years of age jumped that train and the rest is history for them , like they are living happily ever after.
Now the things have changed. Life does not offer these many opportunities but still I see people retire and they want to start a business with the retirement money. They have no experience of starting and running a business but their financial need demand it.
Then there are those who are not happy with what they do and want to change career.
So what is the right age for making a career change ?
I say the first chance you get, the sooner the better. You will at least be living happily ever after if you success in your mission to change the course of your life according to your wishes.
**I think the right time to change careers is when your present career is making you unhappy to the extent that it affects your performance levels.
A lot of people do change careers in fact surveys have shown most people switch career paths after having achieved maximum goals or attaining senior positions in their chosen fields.**

I agree with this.
That said, in the general course of things, the older one gets the more responsibility one has; bills to pay, spouses to bribe, kids to keep quiet, and so on. The longer you leave it, the harder it will get.
So, taking that into consideration, I would say the best time to switch is when one has a solid, viable plan which takes the potential for failure into account.
