As much as I hate him and his poor sportsmanship, you have to admit that Ponting is the best batsmen any of us will ever see. These last few years have not been a golden run, this is the norm for him.
Have a look at the way he is dismissed. It is either through a run-out or rash hitting at the end. When he comes and makes a 70 ball 80, no one even notices because he just does it so often.
When Lara comes to bat, there is that feeling of vulnerability to pace early on. When Sachin comes to bat, the threat is not that great. Even when Pieterson comes out, you get the feeling every shot he plays he risks getting out.
But when Ponting comes out, there is no such feeling. The ease with which he pulls the ball is ridiculous, the way he can cut anything a touch short or drive to all parts of the ground on the up.
With Ponting, there is no slogging. Every stroke is textbook but executed to perfection. Even when he hits sixes down the ground, it is merely a forward prod. Simply class.
Unfortunatley, he still has another good 5 years to go. If he continues going like this, I shudder to think what records he’ll break. Most Test runs will be his, most ODI runs will be his, most centuries will be his by a long shot and he’ll probably finish with an average well above 60.
batsmen of pure class, definitely will go down as one of the best players to play the game of cricket, and he leads from the front, arguably also the best captains in cricket...its amazing to see his batting almost unaffected by the pressure of being an australian captain

Ponting is somewhat underrated when people speak about all-time greats. Silently he just grafts on. I like his captainship and quiet hold on the Aussie team, full of stars. As far as I knows he has never been controversial. He IS going to break a number of records still, and has done enough allready to put him down as one of the very best batsmen ever. Go Ponting!!!
Great post. Ponting surely is in the form of his life and has probably been the best batsman in world cricket for the past 2-3 years. He is already regarded by many as the greatest Australian batsman since Don Bradman
