I have always had a soft corner for Viv Richards and regard him as the greatest batsman of our time.

If he is concerned about Ajmal’s doosra then we ought to take his comments seriously

Doesn’t mean he is right. Maybe seeing his team getting knocked was too much for him and was looking for excuses.

i have a better solution…if you have a problem with my post, just don’t read it instead of calling people names…learn how to conduct civilized discussion…it is my prerogative to express an opinion about a certain player’s bowling action… bhajan pa jee and ajmal both shd be re-evaluated by ICC…I really admire ajmal’s fighting spirit but i always felt that he is taking advantage of current laws…he has a really weird bent…and i simply dont agree with this whole 15 degree rule…how do we know that a certain bowler is indeed within the “15 degree bent” in the actual match?..it is unfair to those spinners who have legitimate bowing actions…saqlain did it with a perfect action…so that is an art…

Relax..I know you very well..and I also read your post…

I just don’t know who’s side it is that you are on…or are you a cricket purist…tell me which country and its players following the “rules” and “laws” of the game to the letter?
Everyone is playing “loop hole mania” under ICC’s nose…

The following might help understand doosra

off-spin = the ball spins from off to on or comes into the batsman

leg-spin = the ball spins from on to off or moves away from the batsman

doosra or Chinaman = Off-spinner’s other one i.e. the ball moves away from the batsman (from on to off)

googly = leg-spinner’s other one i.e. the ball comes into the batsman (from off to on)

I think Holding does have a point. It is impossible to bowl the Chinaman or ‘doosra’ as it is called now without some straightening of the elbow. It can be bowled legally but it is true you cannot bowl the doosra from the wrist alone esp. over the 22 yards. This is why the ICC changed the laws - set the legal limit of 15 degrees of permissible straightening of the elbow joint for all bowlers in international cricket - to accomodate it

The point is most international bowlers are able to bowl the doosra by straightening the elbow upto 15 degrees & hence not bowling it illegally, so Holding is wrong there

Saqlain had a very straight arm. There are even many pictures of him bowling in short sleeves (so confident was he about his action) and yet no umpire ever raised doubts over his bowling action.

But with a lot of other bowlers incl. Murali, Bhajji and Ajmal, you can actually see the straightening of the elbow with your own eyes, not in slow mo but live

But Holding’s ire should be directed at the ICC for creating a stupid allowance for the doosra, which discourages people to try to bowl it with as straight an arm as possible as Saqlain did.

**( ps. Doosra (Chinaman): **The bowler delivers the ball with the same finger action as a normal off break but cocks the wrist so that the back of the hand faces the batsman. This gives the ball spin in the opposite direction to that for an off break, causing it to spin from the leg side to the off side to a right-handed batsman.

The doosra is the off-spinner’s equivalent of the leg-spinner’s googly, which spins in the opposite direction to the leg spinner’s stock ball.
