To anyone who grew up with the wonder of Don Knotts turning into a secret aquatic agent – a talking fish who found Nazi submarines so the U.S. Navy could blow 'em up – news of a ‘The Incredible Mr. Limpet’ remake probably felt like a sharp knife to the gut. The only comfort? Hollywood’s been trying to remake it for years, so it has to get out of development hell before it can become a reality.
Last year, Zach Galifianakis circled the project, but no public agreement was made, and now there’s a new director in the works. This name might not make the remake suddenly seem like a good idea creatively, but it could help ease one indie man’s indie woes: Richard Linklater.
