I started my 5.5 month old daughter with rice cereal 3 days ago.She was having a tablespoon of cereal mixed in an ounce of formula and seemed to enjoy it.
For the last 2 nights she hasn’t slept through the night and just wakes up crying for no apparent reason.Also the frequency of bowel movements increased in the last 2 days(from 2 times a day to more than 6 times a day)…kinda opposite to the usual effect rice cereal has on babies due to its binding nature.
The nurse told me to stop giving her the cereal for a few days and see if they are causing this issue and if they are we can try oatmeal cereal,since they are less likely to affect the bowel habits.
She also wasn’t able to figure out any other reason for the sudden changes.
When did you guys introduce oatmeal…??..was it after rice cereal or was solid feeding started with oatmeal..??..how did your infants like it…??
I think you can start oatmeal really when you start rice. I gave my daughter oatmeal when I found the rice was constipating her (a little after 6 months). Then for a while I mixed the two together. Now I do oatmeal in the mornings, rice in the evenings.
Bunny does have days where I am constantly changing her diaper. I guess it’s from her getting used to all the new foods. She sometimes does only little bits of potty at a time. Actually I think today is one of those days. :sigh:
She LOVES her oatmeal. I used to make it with breastmilk, but I’m not pumping now, so I just use formula.
I am thinking of getting oatmeal today for her and then try it.Hope she likes it.
I didn't mind the frequent diaper changes as they were understood with introduction of new foods.I wasn't able to figure out why she wasn't sleeping well.
Its been 2 days I have been giving her oatmeal cereal (1 tablespoon in 1 oz formula)...She likes it and so far everything seems good...AH...
I am thinking of mixing rice and oatmeal after a week or so...(half tablespoon each) ,to slowly bring back rice cereal...

yeah gud thaz wot i was thinkin... puttin in bottle is not gud. anyway my daughter is 4.5 and i still hvent strted ny kinda cereal cus shes colic... doc said to strt when she is 5 mnths which is 15 days away. my cousin ws a bit taken aback i didnt strted cereal already. she suggested i try milupa 7 cereal (i think it has wheat, oatmeal and other 5 things in it). do u guys tink i shud try it?

thx sahar. i just bought the milupa mixed fruits for 4 mnths +. i was wonderin y u guys put 1 ounce formula milk for 1 tablespoon cereal. it says on the box to just add water (it already has skimmed milk in the cereal)
