Musharraf pulled Pak. away from brink of extremism: Rice Updated at: 0733 PST, Friday, August 22, 2008
WASHINGTON: Describing former president Pervez Musharraf as a good ally in the war on terror, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said "he pulled Pakistan away from the brink of extremism."

"...President Musharraf was a good ally in the war (on terror). He pulled Pakistan away from the brink of extremism," Rice said in Warsaw where she signed a deal to build a US defence missile base in Poland.

"I think people forget where Pakistan was in 2001, supporting the Taliban, not aggressive against al-Qaida. And a lot was achieved under his (Musharraf's) rule.

"And perhaps, he also took off his uniform and helped to smooth the path to civilian democratic rule in Pakistan.

Now, the democratically elected Government of Pakistan does have to pay attention to this terrible militant threat," Rice said.

This is what article says.

This coming from same sources who were blaming Musharraf for double game. Besides even US was supporting (or not "against) Taliban until they declined to handover their old buddies.

Re: Rice lauds Mr.Musharaff

Where was U.S supporting TALIBAN?Do you remember the 1998 missile attack on Jalalbad, targetting OB.L ?

Remember Taliban convoys visiting US to discuss oil pipeline? Besides the missile you said was for OBL not Mullah Omar.

BTW, where is OBL? :hehe:

Re: Rice lauds Mr.Musharaff

Rice should also laud Shortcut 'Line-maar-tey-parachute-challa' Aziz.

Re: Rice lauds Mr.Musharaff

U.S did not want to target TALIBAN because TALIBAN had not been acknowledged in fight against U.S. Remember U.S had no diplomatic relations with TALIBAN.

Re: Rice lauds Mr.Musharaff

Where is O.B.L ,is a perplexing question .Nobody knows whether he is alive or not.
