I’ve been looking at recipes online, and they look simple enough. But just a couple of questions.
Do I have to add butter/oil/margarine to melt the marshmallows? Some recipes require a cup while some just add cooking sprays.
Say I don’t use any oil at all, can I then melt the marshmallows in an ordinary pan, or does it have to be non-stick? And even if I do, what’s better, regular or non-stick?
One more thing , dont add the butter in the marshmellow ... I remember doing that and it just clumped up the MM's .. so I suggest mixing the butter in after the MM's been heated well and turned into cream consistency ...
My sister made these awesome rice krispy treats in school. They were soft, gooey and sweet and crunchy...delicious. However, she didn't use marshmallow's I believe. It was something else...I can't remember the name now. I'll ask her and post here again. She said it made the rice krispy treat making process a lot easier. And they didn't cause a mini-earthquake every time you bit into them.
I've never added butter to my marshmallows, they melt perfectly well enough when melted over a low gentle heat and it's not like stirring in rice crispier takes ages afterwards anyway.
Another variation is to use melted mars bars to stir rice crispies into. Delicious!
Marshmallow fluff! It comes in jars and will look like mayonnaise, and it's halal and readily available. The rice krispies stay soft for ages without being 'soggy'. It's awesome.
why is this better then melting marshmellows? I mean is it the consistancy or the taste thats different?
Also, those of you who have used MM's before , does this happen to you too that the consistancy of the melted MM's changes if kept for about 20 minutes ... it starts hardening up ... the gooey feel to it starts disappearing ..

That's exactly what marshmallow fluff prevents - the hardening. The rice krispy treats treats stay gooey for ages when you use the fluff. It tastes exactly the same - no difference. Just the texture/gooeyness is kept throughout. When you use marshmallow's they become little rocks after a day.
