Re: Reza Aslan’s lectures
I’ve seen him, out of all places, on the “Daily Show”. His definitely one of the so-called “progressive” Muslims, although he is quite eloquent.
Definitely not a Manji or such.
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
^ I know ...he was on the colbert report too.....
his book is really quite strange ...he differs greatly from orthodox muslims
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
is this the guy who wrote no god but god? i've been meaning to read this book...
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
^ Yes he is the one......

isnt she the one who supports rushdie?
Re: Reza Aslan’s lectures
Heh, she’s:
Reza may be pro-gay, etc, but there is a major attitude difference between the two. I think Reza is sincere, whereas Manji seems to have an Agenda, and seems to target her message to a Western audience.
Reza is also very honest about his politics. He will point out the seeming irony that the Islamic revolution in fact provided more opportunity for the common woman than the Shah’s secular rule. He is dead against any military action against his native Iran. These are not at all popular views to hold.
In general, I personally think his political views are more approachable than his religious ones.

Yes that is one chapter of his book that I liked the best ( post colonial period)…he does not demonize the islamic scholars and other mujadids like many “liberals” do …and have to admit has a deep understanding of religions whether we agree with his conclusions or not that is another matter
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
is this what we have come to? praising a gay (or pro-gay whatever)!!!!
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
^ Progress my man..Progress :)
We give up on Allah's ways and follow the shaitan now :) That is called progress!
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
Who is praising? It's called evaluating...
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
It's called realism. We have thousands of gays in Muslim countries, do you want to do away with them? God make them that way, worry about your own dirty thoughts and lewd acts.
Re: Reza Aslan’s lectures
Reza Aslan has nothing to do with Irshad Manji.
See his writings for yourself at

Re: Reza Aslan’s lectures
I stopped the video at the point when he recognized Syedana Ali:razi: as the nephew of the prophet:saw: instead of his cousin.
Re: Reza Aslan's lectures
What a pathetic buffoon this unambiguously *** man is...according to him "muslim women have only very recently been reading the Quran themselves and are interpreting it on their own, thereby challenging long established beliefs"...I don't know which muslim women he's been around, I guess the heavily bleached, hairy, half drunk, Iranian women that he is used to would fit the stereotype, but most women of faith have for centuries been reading and interpreting quran on their own and have been imminent scholars of hadith, tafseer and fiqh in their own right...
