Re: Revolutionary expediency
Arshad, I am standing for Pakistan too , I am not a big fan of any politician either. But I know that the people who crippled Pakistan for their own business interests cannot be trusted ever again to run the country. Period. There is ample proof out there and in the UK of what they have been upto. Why would you want violent goons to run the country if you truly love Pakistan?
Lets look at this rationally.
Imran Khan wants to dissolve the government because it rigged polls to get elected, or so he claims.
If there was vote rigging then there is a set procedure to follow under the law of the land.
First of all vote rigging needs to be proven then there is a mechanism available for re-polling. This has to be done on a constituency basis.
Its not fair on PTI if there was vote rigging but it is also not fair on PML N voters if their mandate is not respected.
Just because anyone may not like a party or leader cannot be used as valid reason to remove an elected government. The electorate needs to wait for its term to come to an end before they can send them home through new elections.
Everyone accepts that PML N is the largest party in terms of support in Pakistan, even if they may not have won an absolute majority they would have been the largest party even in the worst case scenario.
Is the PML N more corrupt than PPP? Or any other party? Answer is no.
Is the PML N more inefficient than any other party? Answer is no. and it can be said that it is more competent than many other parties.
Is PML N more thuggish than any other party? No PPP, ANP and MQM have armed militant wings in Karachi. Does anyone member the mob rule of PPP for 2 or 3 days when BB was killed. Cars were pelted with stones, roads were blocked to traffic, trains were burnt, shops were forced to shut. This was across the whole of Pakistan.
What are the reasons for Imran Khan wanting elections if the demand is illegal? It could be that he wants to position his party as the natural government in waiting, or it could be that his financial backers and professional politicians that have joined him want their pound of flesh, or it could be that the establishment is trying to use Imran Khan to get PML N to change their policies. Whatever the reasons, it is morally wrong for Imran Khan to try to take this extreme position.
Instead of looking for angels that will always disappoint us we need to improve our system, with independent media and judiciary and electoral reforms in the pipeline we can moderate the behavior of our politicians. Instead of looking for quick fixes we need to let our politicians make their mistakes and to learn from them. We need continuity of policies, we need to learn from the past as in 1990s we lost a decade due to instability. Pakistan cannot afford such experiments again.
Even if we assume PTI wins an outright majority in any future elections, PML N and PPP may not respect its mandate and what if they bring twice the number of people onto the streets of Islamabad, will Imran Khan then resign?
