ok so i have my british nationality from birth, and my dad got me apakistani id card when i was 17, so once it expires, can i not renew it and thus revoking my pakistani nationality,…? it doesnt make sense for me to have it, because under international law, if you are a dual national, neither country would assist you if you ever get into any bother, plus theres other issues with having dual natioanlity…i was given a pakistani id from my dad, i didnt want it, and now i wish that when it expires, i dont renew…do i need to do more than that to actually revoke it?
Re: revoking nationaity...
Have you checked "expiry" date on your Pakistani ID card?
Once it is expired, it won't revoke your Pakistani nationality.
Besides, it doesn't matter, Daily Mail will still label you as Pakistani-British.
Re: revoking nationaity...
Think on the bright side, they do come in handy some times.
Re: revoking nationaity...
Just surrender it - what a big fuss about it ...
Re: revoking nationaity...
not a fuss..for gods sake...just asking a question.
once it expires, its revoked? or do i need to physically surrender it even once expired...thats why im confused/
Re: revoking nationaity...
your id card getting expired does not mean that your 'citizenship' is revoked.
however, since u were under 18, it is not binding on you, you never applied for pakistani citizenship as an adult.
You are eligible for be a Pakistani citizen, but unless you apply for it as an adult you are not really one
being a dual citizen is not an issue if you get in any trouble in a third country, it is only an issue if you are in one of the two countries and want some extra protection or help from embassy etc, its a little tough to explain, it just will not save you from facing law in one of the country just because you are also a citizen of the other country.
but still its not always applicable, my parents are dual citizens, UK and Pak, when the situation in Pak was dodgy they had been contacted by Brit embassy to be prepared to be evacuated.
