Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development
^ its funny you mentioned singing reality shows. I remember we had one in 95, on a channel called NTM. The show's name was Music Challenge. This was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOoong time ago though. come to think of it, it may have been a first of its kind of reality show anywhere...
Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development
^ well it needs to come back and now !!!!!
I've heard tons of good stuff about coke studio ( yet to watch it ), but I'm assuming its more folksy music ????. But there needs to some commercial aspect. Every time I am watching any Pak channel , entertainment or news, its always Bollywood songs, I mean it does not make sense????????
Music /dance all need to be promoted with great enthusiasm.
I think Pak has one advantage over India, that films dont dominate over everything else. We do not exactly have a pop industry as such as everything eventually comes down to Bollywood.
We do not have independent and successful recording artist that are not attached to the movie industry in anyway. Only a handful. Most of our talented singers are hidden away behind the actors and actresses.
Even our TV industry is seen as second class compared to the movie Industry. In the US in fact everyone from TV / Music and films are given equal importance and paid extremely well in all fields

Film industry is a very important factor in any nation's cultural development. In Pakistan where the film industry is almost destroyed by the flood of indian movies, it is very heartening to see that there is still some hope left.
Shoaib Mansoor is doing a good job!
We should all support our film industry by going to cinemas.
Pakistan film industry was excellent in 50's , 60's and up to mid 70's. Then comes mardood Zia-ul-Haq, who did every effort to destory the Pakistani film industry, though this munfiq-e-Azam invited indian actors such as shetrugun Sinha to his house on the demand of mentally challenged daughter.
Coming back to quality of Pakistani cinema in those days, they were as good as Indian movies perhaps better. I can give you few names Budnaam, Doraaha, Arman, Aag Ka Darya, Shaheed, Kala Paani, Sangam (former East Pakistani Movie), Talash, Anjuman and so on. The songs were superb as compared to Indian songs. Many songs are now stolen by Indian directors. Unfortunately new generation of singers could not replace star singers such as Mehdi Hasan, Ahmad Rushdi, Salim Raza, Noor Jehan, Mala, Runa Lela, Mujib Aalam, Akhlaq Ahmad, Rubina Qureshi, and yes my most favorite Masood Rana.
Iam very much in favor of revising Pakistani film industry. If Pakistani dramas outperform Indian Movies, why not Pakistani Movies. I have seen a tons of trashed Indian movies in recent future and decided to stop watching these sh1ty movies.

You haven't watched the right ones, watch moves from Tamil and Malayalam languages.....these days they dole out fantastic moves with wonderful stories and great music. The themes are more progressive, production highly professional and technically superior movices. It's the state of mind of the fans that is responsible for movies, after all from among the fans come the writers and directors.
Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development
Isn't it time that the industry itself got off its ass to revive itself. There are tons of private televisions and media groups in Pakistan and they should lend their help, instead of the government whose money is better spent on education & infrastructure which geo or ary can't fix.

You may be right as many Tamil and Malayalam movies were re-made with Hindi/Urdu versions. Sorry I can not understand Tamil and Malayalam so watching them is out of question.

I think 'Mani Ratnum' makes most of his movies in Tamil and then re-makes them in 'Hindi /Urdu'. He has produced some good movies like 'Bombay, Dil se, Yuva,Guru and Raavan'.

Mani Ratnam is old news, there are quite a few new directors, in Tamil who take movies, with more down to earth stories set in Villages, small towns and stories about low middle class and poor. That does not mean they potrait object poverty and opperession etc. They capture the changing nature of villages as well. What impress me is quality of production.

Can you name few which were re-made with Hindi/Urdu version? I would like to see those.
