Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

Film industry is a very important factor in any nation’s cultural development. In Pakistan where the film industry is almost destroyed by the flood of indian movies, it is very heartening to see that there is still some hope left.

Shoaib Mansoor is doing a good job!
We should all support our film industry by going to cinemas.

  • KARACHI: Shoaib Mansoor’s movie ‘Bol’ released under the banner of Geo Films has not only established new success records, it has even set a new business record at the box office. It has become the film earning the highest gross in the first week of release, smashing all previous records.

Shah Rukh Khan’s film “My Name Is Khan” had done business of Rs21.658 million in a week, whereas ‘Bol’ has done business of Rs22.038 million in just six days. It is expected that when record of the full week is available, this film will make a gross earning of Rs25 million setting up new business record.

It may be recalled that ‘Khuda Key Liye’ the first movie of Shoaib Mansoor too had set up new records and now his second venture is maintaining the tradition. A large number of fans are making a beeline to cinemas and multiplexes. Families are specially being attracted to the movie and they want to see it at the earliest. Since its first show on June 24, the film is continuously on the march to success. By thronging the cinemas, viewers have proved that if good and standard films are produced, they will definitely be attracted to cinema houses.

Zardati should have done some thing for this.
He is related to this since his birth.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

I read the title as revival of Pak Army industry, i think i am reading too much on army :smack:

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

I haven't read the article, but I absolutely agree that movie industry should be revived. People in Pak don't understand the power of cinema.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

Was not it Nero who was trying to distract his public from real life issues by providing them 2with immense amount of entertainment so his kingship remains secure.

This idea sounds like that to me.

How would theater going to help us in poverty that our society is facing? How will it put food in front of our poor kids? How will it resolve health care concerns? How will it help in better educating our future generation?

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

We have a lot of great story tellers that can bring their stories to the screen but have no funding what so ever. Not to mention the pathetic government wont even build a post production digital lab so every person who wants to make a movie in Pakistan has to go to Thailand or India for post production which is very costly. Our cameras and equipment are still from the 1970s. Our people have no training which adds to the woes. And not to mention our great mullahs who will issue fatwas over anything especially movies.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

Pakistanis have forgotten every thing.
Living at home or going out for eating.
This is a life of Pakistani.
(Going for work is not an activity)

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

It's primarily entertainment. And if it doesn't help in above we should also stop creating TV dramas and shows, publishing stories, going to beaches and parks, etc.
I think economy has nothing to do with a mode of relaxation and entertainment for people.

But I think cinema is more than just entertainment. If proper subjects are used for stories in movies then it can be used for propaganda, creating unity among people, and show our confused common people the way out of the complex geo-political situation we are in.
Obviously, we are not talking about dances and songs. Such things are a waste of time.

A theater helps local employment, helps other smaller industry like fashion, tailoring, food service, food stalls etc. just like a war ignites economic growth somewhere on the continent :D

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

It is your hatred for Pakistan and Pakistan army that is blinding any tiny bit of logic that may have left in you. The sooner you realize, the better…

:k: Couldnt have said better! It is a proven fact that more relaxed and motivated people are more productive and more efficient in their work for nation building.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

i think i saw the word army too… while clicking the thread

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

There is no money now a days in this business so they left it with their partner Jang-Geo

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

If there is no money in army industry then US must be starving to death :hehe:

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

We need good directors and producers these Doodh Walas (Gujars) are just destructing this industry....

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

Our cinema houses (Very few) are captured by Indian movies. Our Tv channels are showing Indian shows and songs.
Geo and ARY are leading for this. They don't pay taxes because they are Mafia and no action is possible against them because that will be an attack on liberty of media.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

^ I watched Geo/Ary (here in US) I didn't see any Indian dramas/shows, but probably their music channels showed Indian songs. Which of the Ary/Geo are showing what Indian shows?

BTW our very own ministers watch Indian shows while Assembly sessions are going on, what do you say about that?

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

You see a different version of Geo and ARY. At Pakistan Geo and ARY are almost Indian channels. Only they didn't show Indian drama.
Our ministers ,
he he he
No one is ours.
They are enjoying the chance they got through the sacrifices of Bhuttos.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

They are showing indian dramas too. At HumTV they show Utran, Office Office and on Indus TV they also show a soap *ing that Shweta Tiwari (Bigboss IV winner) by saying that they have to fill time slots.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

And if some one tries to do something against them.
It will be called Azadi e Sahafat par hamlah
آزادی صحافت پر حملہ
However we need to support them. There is almost no income from film industry so they could be granted a 30 years tax holiday.

Re: Revival of Pak film industry - absolutely necessary for our cultural development

funding. is. overrated. some of the best film concepts and short films are a result of the human minds working with the resources they have. that’s what film schools are all about. I’ve got faith in the things i’ve been seeing from independent filmmakers in pakistan from many cities. And i’m not talking about mummy-daddy filmmakers who made slackistan.

It’s growing. and it’s quality. They are ten times better then indian/pakistani films (and yes, the rest of the world can’t tell the difference between shahrukh khan dancing in tight jeans and shaan doing the same thing) in originality. With youtube and vimeo, they have an unlimited universal audience that is known as the residents of planet earth.

I personally am more about documentary makers from pakistan. Here’s an article about one of karachi firemen, for example.
