But you have to understand that the majority want to see bigger budgeted movies rather then student made films. They want to see feature length films that can look like the quality of Hollywood or Bollywood, yes I know why do we always compare ourselves with India but Pakistanis especially the youth are mad for bollywood. If we cannot give them movies that are upto the visual standard of bollywood then not many people will go see it. There is no doubt we got talent we just gotta utilize it and exploit it to the world.

I’ve written a few screenplays my self after I’m done university I want to make them into feature Pakistani films but the lack of investors is going to make it a tough road ahead.

I suppose what the majority want is unfortunately not attainable. They want lollywood/bollywood style backwards musicals, which the new generation of film makers in Pakistan are simply not interested in, from what i’ve seen and observed. They are interested in telling stories, and communicating what’s on their minds. As vague as it sounds, it’s pretty much all they want. This phenomenon is so widespread in Pakistan that I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an influx of Pakistani origin independent short films in less then two years around the world, in every major film festival of relevance.

This new generation is interested in going out and capturing and conquering, and then communicating through this median. This is unique because in India, Indian movies dominate the industry with cheesy films. They MUSCLE out ANY attempt at mainstreaming a different opinion. This has been why the independent (not cheesy musical) cinema hasn’t been able to take off in India; this is also why the non movie musical movie industry hasn’t been able to make it to main stream india.

there’s a reason why independent filmmakers from places like bosnia and namibia, with no budgets, keep beating “bollywood/lollywood” year after year in every film festival: its because they have specific stories to tell, as opposed to trying to showcase overacting.
