REVIEW: The Perfect Setting, Toronto

Hey everyone,
This review is long overdue, but I really wanted to do it because I don’t want the same experience that I had with The Perfect Setting to happen to another bride.

I got married back in June, and the Valima reception was on June 3rd. My fiance and I were having a hard time finding a person that we trusted and within our budget for our decor. I had met with Naphisha at The Perfect Setting maybe a little more than 6 weeks prior to the date. We had arranged for the appointment time, and I arrived a bit early and she was with another bride (which is fine, because I was early!). However, she spent a half hour after our designated appointment time with that bride, which is a bit irritating! Anyways, when I actually sat down and spoke with her, I absolutely loved her. She seemed to be the only decorator I met with that really understood what I wanted for the wedding. She told me she would get back to me within a week with a quote as well as different sketches for the stage. One week went by, and I had not heard from her. I had left her voice mails and emails inquiring for an update, and she did not respond. When I finally did speak to her on the phone (again, me calling her) she was very short with me, borderline rude. I was absolutely shocked! About 2 weeks after I met with her, she finally sent me an email with the quote. Because we were running out of time, my husband and I decided to go with her. On our second appointment we were settling all the details of the event. I had showed her a picture of the centerpieces that I wanted and from the picture she said that she would be able to do these centrepieces for around $4. We were going to do half tall and half short centrepieces. The tall ones were going to be a pouf of babys breath, and the short was going to be hydrangeas. She asked me to email her the picture I showed her of the centrepieces so she could have it on file, and I emailed her the picture right away and received confirmation from her assistant that she received the picture.

On the actual day of the event, I was not around at the hall and my sister-in-laws were the ones taking care of everything there. I had no idea of what happened, but I did notice when I finally did arrive that the centrepieces were incorrect. Both the tall and the short centerpieces were hydrangeas and the vase we agreed upon was incorrect. But there was nothing I could actually do about it, because the event had already started. I actually found out the following day that when my sister in laws arrived at the hall, all the flowers were all browned and wilted. One of my sister in laws contacted Naphisha and she said something along the lines of that we were “only” paying 2 dollars per centrepiece. Just because I supposedly paid “2 dollars” does not mean that I should receive satisfactory service. Also, the price I was paying was based off of the picture I showed Naphisha, and Naphisha herself quoted me the price. I did not know that price was for dead flowers, who would want that?! My sister in law did tell me that she attempted to rectify the situation by sending her husband with a new batch of flowers and they went ahead and replaced the wilted ones with the new batch. But honestly, this should not have been necessary in the first place. Any professional vendor should have had the job done correctly the first time around. Also, I recently received my pictures from the photographers and you can clearly see in the pictures that the flowers were still browned despite the fact that they brought a different batch of flowers. It was an upsetting experience. The Perfect Setting is not a company that is considered on the cheaper end of the spectrum. They charge a good amount of money, and I definitely expect what I pay for and in this case I did not get what I paid for.

I found Naphisha to be inconsistent with her work. She honestly did a spectacular job on the stage (save the flowers) and we received many compliments on them. With the centrepeices, it seems like they did a half-ass job on it. It looks like it was just thrown together. Also, it seems as through A Perfect Setting lacks adequate communication. It seems like all the problems we had were due to miscommunication on her behalf. I did email about all this back in July and included a print screen of the email I sent her of the centrepiece pictures as well as her acknowledgement, and she did not respond. I was expecting this, but it would have been nice to receive an email of apology.

All in all, if someone asked me, I would not recommend A Perfect Setting. Once again they did a great job with the stage, but I don’t like the way I was treated as a client. I do have a feeling it is because I was probably one of the lower budgeted bride, but this should not make a difference in my opinion. Naphisha was a lovely person to meet with, but again it does not seem like she was really listening to what I wanted.

Anyways, I apologize this was so long, but I do hope this helps somebody

thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback.
it really is sad when things don't work out the way they are planned.....and not getting an apology makes it all the more disappointing.....

Re: REVIEW: The Perfect Setting, Toronto

I am sorry you had to go through that :(

What on earth is one supposed to do with wilted flowers? Especially once the event has already started? It sounds trivial but its not...its more about how you were charged for a service that isn't cheap but it was a shabbily done job.

I know how you feel because I've been there with a local vendor here.

Re: REVIEW: The Perfect Setting, Toronto

i've heard very mixed reviews of the perfect setting from a lot of brides. some days she seems to just get it perfectly right, other times its a mess and a half. stick to vendors who are consistent in their work, imho!

Re: REVIEW: The Perfect Setting, Toronto

oh yeah! she is definitely very inconsistent. I know it's a small thing, but it's still something that I paid for. I would definitely be careful in choosing them for wedding decor because of her inconsistency.

Re: REVIEW: The Perfect Setting, Toronto

Agreed... No one pays for some one to do a bad job. I can throw together crappy centerpieces myself! I had lots of issues w vendors when I was getting married to. People who don't return emails or calls, or dont follow up. I was always shocked. How do these people run a profitable business? I know they don't have too many clients to care cause they all have lots of dates available, even close to the wedding date.
Sorry to hear of you experience. I hope everything else was perfect :)

Re: REVIEW: The Perfect Setting, Toronto

im sorry to hear about your experience, but glad the stage turned out great (she does do really pretty stages), but no one should go through that kind of disappointment on the day of their wedding when time is so limited to get things right.
it seems like her customer service is definitely lacking since i have heard the same from many other people.. my guess is that she is really in demand but doesn't know how to keep up. is it just me or does a $4 quote for centerpieces with fresh flowers seem alarmingly low? it sounds like she was planning beforehand to use recycled flowers from another wedding at your event..

Re: REVIEW: The Perfect Setting, Toronto

yeah $4 per centerpiece is RIDICULOUS! you can't even rent a vase for that much!
