REVIEW: Seher Sultan Studio - Toronto

I wanted to post a review for Seher Sultan (Studio). It has been a year since my wedding and I still won’t watch my reception video. I booked her for all 3 days, because I really liked her portfolio. I will say that she has the potential to do a great job.

She made me looking amazing at the mehndi. Got alot of compliments and I loved the makeup too. She braided my hair with an extension piece but by time I got on the stage it had fallen apart. Everything was loose and coming out all over my face. The dupatta actually fell off my head while I was on stage (so embarrassing!). A friend who is not South Asian and has never even touched a dupatta, took me to the washroom and pinned it back. It stayed the entire night after that.

Wedding hair and makeup was very nice. Dupatta setting needed work, but overall it was the best of the 3 nights.

My reception was HORRIBLE though. On the mehndi and wedding day, Seher was nicely dressed and her makeup was done. The reception day she came to my house looking like she has just jumped out of the bed. It was so obvious that she had gone out the night before. What she does during her private time is none of my business but when she knows she has to get a bride ready the next afternoon, she should have cared. I had an outdoor photoshoot and Seher said the airbrush makeup would hold. It didn’t. Recently I found pics of me before I left the house for the photoshoot, which prompted this post. It looked like I wasn’t wearing makeup. I think she forgot to use some sort of base but there was no coverage with the foundation. Eyes were nothing special. There was no teasing of the hair. She attached an extension piece and that was it. My hair and dupatta were just stuck to my head. Dupatta fell off at the reception and had to be re-pinned by a family member. Photoshop can fix the pictures but not the memories or video. I had friends and family come just for the reception, and I feel horrible knowing that’s how I looked. She did do hair and makeup for my in-laws and they looked great.

I don’t want other brides making the same mistake I did. We depend on our makeup artists to make us look great. I should have asked my in-laws about my hair and makeup before leaving the house. But I trusted Seher, and for me it backfired. I’m not saying not to book her. I am happy with the mehndi and wedding makeup. But she really let me down. Be clear with your expectations. I had doubts that the makeup didn’t look right, but I didn’t say anything which was a mistake on my part. Tip to the brides: Be 100% thorough in your trial!! Have them set your dupatta, etc so later on there are no surprises.
