Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
Just thought I should add, don't stress yourself out by working with Napisha from The Perfect Setting. She is very disorganized and was pretty much late for every meeting I had with her. I was in talks with her regarding my wedding decor since 6 months prior to my wedding and we had discussed every detail. I was a bit hesitant booking her since she was unreliable but I didn't have much time to look around so decided to go with her. During our last meeting, once I had finalized everything with her, I told her to hold my date and she said she will get back to me regarding the fabric material for my linens. After that meeting, I got really busy with my finals and I called her as soon as my finals were over! She kept avoiding my phone calls for 2 weeks! And when I finally got a hold of her, she had the audacity to tell me that she has taken on another client for that date because I didn't pay her 350$ in deposit! I understand that as a wedding vendor you need that assurity but I had met up with her 4 times during the last 6 months and was extremely patient with her when she cancelled on me at least 3 times!
I told her that yes I had not signed a contract but the LEAST she could do was give me a simple call to let me know that another person was interested in my date and she would no longer be able to hold it for me. Moreover, she also never got back to me regarding the fabric material so I assumed she was working on that.
I mean she was extremely unprofessional during the 6 months I dealt with her, she kept cancelling on me and it was very hard to get a hold of her but when the time came for her $350 dollars deposit, she became all 'professional' and turned her back to me. Her work is decent but she does not own any of the materials. She rents them all and as such her prices are pretty high if you want to go with chiavaris, silk lines etc.
I finally ended up going with Rias Designs and everyone loved my wedding decor.
Dream Party Decor, Diya Decor and Karma Design Studio and extremely pricey and their backdrops are really tacky and OTT in my opinion.
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
Hrm, I dunno... it seems high just for decor IMHO, or does she also do wedding planning for that? I guess the majority of it also depends on how big your wedding is and what you want. Keep in mind too, I had a small wedding so $7000 was pretty much a third of my total budget. That colours my thinking sometimes ;)
I'm thinking $7000 for three events is reasonable assuming that she's the doing the everything that goes along with the stage and tables. It would average out to $2333 for each event. I didn't find anyone who would do the stage and tables for that price AND decent quality. Considering the type of items (furniture, table linens, center pieces) Nisha carries, it'd be difficult to find that else where for $2333. The options are really endless. It's like being a kid in the candy store. But that's just my opinion based on the research I did in the first half of this year.
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
^ Sorry.. should've made it clearer... I haven't had a consultation with her yet so the $7k is just a very rough estimate of what it would typically cost I would assume.. I would think the $7k would only include stage decor for the 3 days - but again, no idea. Once I have my consultation with her (a few months still), I shall let you u guys kno :)
She is REALLY attentive and is constantly doing follow-up emails, etc but gives you enough space so she's not pushy or anything... and for that I think both me and my fiance love her!
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
^ hahaa...you know you could opt for a cheaper decorator for the mehndi and have her do teh 2 main events. I had her do my shaadi only (my valima is in Cali) and got another guy for the mehndi. I had to tell him exactly what I wanted and he did a good job. We used props that we had borrowed from friends so that added to the decor. If you want, I can trying sending you some pictures next week...that's when I'll get the cds.

Like I said, I had a small wedding so my research focused around costs relative to that, hence that figure seeming high to me. I'll take your word for it! :)
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
Cherryontop - do you have any info for Rias designs. Any pics? From the pics I have seen so far, I've liked Karma designs and also Wedding decor. Anyone met with either of those or know of their work? Are they more pricey or reasonable and how are they to deal with. Someone mentioned Dream party looked a little tacky - I would agree going just by what I saw at Suhaag.
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
I do think $7000 can be alot. I would assume that the 7K would only be stage decor... cuz everything I saw @ Suhaag/Kismet... just the stage decor alone was in the $4 - 7K range.
Sooo yeah, even tho we have a big wedding, I still wanted to spend no more than $5 .. its possible, but just not wth the best people. :(

Yeah, thats what the fiance is saying too.. he knows a decorator his friend used who wasn't super expensive... the only problem was that he wasn't "creative" - he had to be told what colours to use, and he didn't have much of an opinion in terms of what goes etc... which is fine since I know exactly what I want :P hehe
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
I recently went to see Nisha and while I still haven't received her detailed proposal yet (should receive it over the next few days) she did say that for my evening wedding reception for 130 guests she might be able to do something for $ 3k but if I wanted something nice that would be closer to $4k and that doesn't even include my mehndi which is for 100 guests. Her centrepieces start at $ 35 to rent she said and she had one idea for me at $ 25 to rent (submerged orchid in a long glass vase). I think that's quite a lot to spend on only 130 guests. What do other people think? When I spoke to other decorators, most said their centrepieces start at $ 10 to rent and then go up from there. At $ 35 elsewhere I was offered a decent centrepiece that the decorator would just sell to me and that guests could take home at the end of the night.
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
I got my detailed proposal - so it is $ 4,000 for 130 guests for reception and $ 300 extra for transport plus taxes. And mehndi for 100 guests is $ 1,000 plus taxes.
Re: Review on Nisha Chandra- Toronto/GTA decorator
^yikes, isnt that a lot for only 130 guests? Considering you wont have that many tables to get centerpieces for? oh yah, I just wanted to comment, the orchid submerged in water, that has been done a lot, maybe you can ask her to give you 2 different centerpieces, one more expensive, and one more economical, that gives the look of having expensive centerpieces, but at a lesser cost.

Did you end up going with Nisha? How did the decor turnout?
