One should shop at Dollar General or Dollar Trees (or any other stores like these that market themselves for convenience & low prices) with caution. Dollar Tree for instance markets that everything in their store is for a dollar. Well, some things are really a bargain, like big soup bowl or a plater that you might find anywhere else for a few bucks … or maybe some of the stationary stuff that you really don’t care about as long as it works. But not all things that they have on their shelves are actually worth a dollar. For example, the canned food you can easily get at other big retail stores like Giant, Wal-Mart for less.
As a general rule of thumb, things that you really don’t care much about (which is different for different people), like what kinda paper should be in your kitchen cabinets, or the brand of your laundry basket etc. you can sometimes get cheaper at these convenient stores but if you want to buy something that you will use quiet often, then you are better off trying your luck at your local big retail store.
ahmadjee, good read. thanks for sharing. this is exactly how dollar stores make their profits...by selling all items whether worth above or below the $1 value for $1. this evens out their revenues in the long-run.
