Is it true that we are allowed to reuse a Muslim grave again after 200 years to bury a new corpse in it?
Re: reusing the same site for burial
in some places its after 100yrs
i dont know whether this is accordance to religious laws, or cultural/traditional/ or according to the law of the land.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
Its done more frequently than 100 or 200 years. In Lahore, my grandfather's grave was recently used by one of our bafoon relatives to bury their long time servant. My grandafther passed away in 1986.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
if all dead were burried on "unused" land, the living wud have to look for another planet to live on....
Re: reusing the same site for burial
so when they reuse the same plot what do they do with the body? and when they reuse the plot do they get rid of the other persons grave stone or do they keep it?
Re: reusing the same site for burial
Body is usually gone by that time. I am not sure what happens to the grave stone.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
^ they reuse it !!
but in saudi arabia they reuse graves every 5 years or so.. cus our taxi driver there told us that is uncle passed away, and they burried him, so he comes back a couple years later and that grave plot it empty.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
The best way would be to donate ur body, and/or then get it disposed it off in sea
whats the use in burying it in some land, and taking more resources even after death
Re: reusing the same site for burial
your grandfather got a servant in his grave ! How rich a man could be?
Re: reusing the same site for burial
lostsoul - dont you know - your dead body underground serves as a fertilizer. Good source of nitrogen - all that protein in your skin and hair.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
doesnt it take a long time for the skeleton to decompose?
Re: reusing the same site for burial
What are you guys talking about? 100 years? 200 years?
What I have seen in Janaat-al-Baqee (in Medina), one of the most famous Islamic graveyards, is that graves are leveled out after SIX MONTHS and reused. If you walk in there, you can actually see skeletons (khopris, bones, arms) visible from many graves.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
Seriously Faisal? Good job I skipped the tour of the graveyard then. Actually, we (women) weren't allowed to go. Oh well, I'm glad in this case.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
^ yah i think thats what our cab driver was telling us about.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
ew ![]()
as if there is not enough sand out there under which to bury corpses.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
People of Kelash, Northern Pakistan, used to do nothing with their dead ones.
They left the dead bodies out in open at a far away place ..
But now they have started burying the dead bodies
Re: reusing the same site for burial
Land is re-used after 100 years.. 100 years is long enough for a body to decompose. bones an all...
the thing is tho on the day of Qayaamah.. we all get up together!
Re: reusing the same site for burial
true
Re: reusing the same site for burial
I guess any fertilizing benefit would be offset by use of dedicated land, and a cemetry industry made out of it.
Re: reusing the same site for burial
I’m interested in what Allah :swt: Rasool :saw: have got to say about this?
Please can someone be kind enough to point to an Aayah or a Hadith or two?
