Funny thing is disposable plastic cups become reusable cups for some desis.

I would have thought reuseable ones .. it also largely depends on the material used .. 
Look at the product lifecycle, the production wont be as high as for the disposable ones, using less natural resources… people wont be wasting them in their homes .. paper cups do get unintentionally wasted at times , specially at parties and all …
and finally lesser cups disposed means , less headache for the government to clear the kachra and the resources used to empty and dispose our bins ..

For some reason, whenever I have a paper cup full of drink in my hand, I feel like squeezing it because of how light it feels

Technically everything that can be reused should not be disposed. It's matter of how durable reusables are. In that sense, steel wins. Personally I'd go for mitti ke burtan .. environment and tradition friendly, plus everything specifically water seem to taste better.
