So when I first joined Gup it was Oct, 1997. I used to wait for a whole minute before any page would log on, and I thought that was an amazingly mighty fast connection back then :smack:

Life never pauses for any one of us no matter how much we wish to freeze a certain moment and live in that second an entire lifetime. People come and go, but some very rare aspects serve as a constant in our lives. Gupshup being one of them for us hopefully :cheegum:

GS has undergone many phases and still yet growing as minutes roll by. Surely the lot of you have heard it’s big bang theory a million times over by now… so I’ll spare u that bit. Where you guppies interact now, is all due to the efforts of our senior members. The joy stirred today by the presence of all you virtual souls; a very similar crowd used to live in these very pages, with strokes of few keys on GS they’d announce their presence ever so dazzling

Writing epics of ecstasy,
Giving tidings of glee,
Sharing a happy tale
News so traumatically pale
Cracking a joke insane
Lending a ear humane
It went on and on…and we lived on and on

From the blues of winter: We present to you a reunion of Oldies from the late 90’s (some Y2K’s count as well)…So let the festivities of words galore begin and see you all here :cheer:

stumbled upon 97 searching Bilal Bhutta's page for pakistan and music, left afterwards, came back in 98, surprisingly searching again for Bilal Bhutta's page, apparently there was some Sun Microsystems' uLaw audio format files that allowed downloading songs, left again..

near end of 2000, ammar and aapkiamanat kept talking about this site, made account and profile.. and sorta been nazzled here since.. i would say Jan04,2001 without going to my profile..

1996 azkar told me about this whole thing on his mind, I talked to him then bailed, a year and a half later I showed up just to harrass him on this site and ended up staying, obviously with the record of being banned in my first 2 weeks here by azkar and muzna. :)

initial buddies include Roman and Ghalib, the first gupsters I met in person. then roosterblues, faisal..still recall horsing around with NY ahmadi, and then an old enemy who used to just harrass me in religion forum and vice versa..appeared last year as TLK.

things that remind me of my initial days on GS,

Saw pak.org site back in 97/98 while following the link from “TOPP (The Official Pakistan Page) awards” image shown on almost all pakistani websites… then, started visiting the main page back in 99… The main page was actually an information portal for Pakistan… talking about history, heroes, land and what not… I used to come and read it … with newsroom colum on left extracting news from all the prominent newspapers of Pakistan (Dawn, The News etc.), Pakistan Web Directory in the middle of the page and what was on the left, I never bothered to see…:smiley:

One day, I discovered on the right side of the page, there was a column “Gupshup 10 recent Topics” … with threads title (linked) and which forum they were posted in… and by who the last poster was…

Interesting titles… funny phrases… Poetry… OoooO lala :whistling

I clicked on a thread… I was in poetry… Packed with amazing poetry… second thread… General (back when General and cafe were one and same :hehe:)

I saw people like, ATA, Jasoos, Kohal, hayaa, muzna, Azkar, Mr Fraudia, Farwa, Jawaan, Sadaf and God knows who else having fun, fighting on silly matters, pulling legs… what a fun place, i thought…

Then, I left for a while… stumbled on the site later after few months… I saw Jasoos… having fun… I used to make fun of Clementine :stuck_out_tongue:

Jasoos was the character which made me register on the site… Jasoos kee Shahadat was the thread that made me join this site… (all blame goes to that character…) … later I even created a replica of Jasoos - my first multinick Jasoos2 … ID later deleted by sabah … actually both ids were deleted… we both created those again but then, stopped using it… They were brutally murdered…

My first nick Shaheen… caught the eyes of ladies… thinking I am some aunty :sheyn1:

Had to explain them that Shaheen is the proper word for Falcon decpicted in Iqbal’s poetry and the nick is taken from that character since the poet that has ever touched my soul and inspired me was Iqbal (RA) …

Found many characters in religion forum and that’s where I started to learn sadful things which I could have never thought before… The world was coming to me… in my teens, I was experiencing first hand talks and interaction with Rejectors of the ahaadeeth… horrible yet learning experience… helped me understand what it takes to propagate your thoughts… learnt the critical thinking, learnt how to debate… learnt how to develop an educational argument, learnt why references are necessary…

Digi Chat… Mr Fraudia … amazing experience… only after 10 years, I got to find out a distant relationship with this person :slight_smile: Respectable personlity to say the least…

I even guessed his couple of nicks in digi chat :-p

and he actually told me one of his himself too :snooty:

There is a dark period in the history of GS too (actually there are few) but I sticked around… people came and gone; I never did…!

Got banned for 5-6 times…

We along with people like, ATA, dewana tera, Rani Pakistani, ghazal kisi ke, nikki, destinee, proudpakistani007, khanzadah, disco duck, sandleen, hanie, Completely Incomplete, monasha etc. created what cafe is today…

contact ahmedjee to find out how the policies of cafe came into existence (more than 80% of which are still in effect) :slight_smile: you will know who was the inspiration to create those policies :snooty:

97 i was in elementary school, enjoying grade 4 .........

grade 4 was the most terrible year of my life.

but at that time (97), i was in grade 6. learning how to cheat in Sindhi paper :o (but it was useless nonetheless)
