The shalwar in 6th and 8th picture is called "Patiala Shalwar", commonly worn by Punjabi ladies in India and it's in fashion in Pakistan these days.
It's cut and sewn in similar manner as the regular shalwar but this one takes a lot more fabric (about 4 meters).

I would wear a short shirt wth a salwar, but only if the salwar was a bit straighter and sleeker... like this..

For some reason I find short shirts on shalwar a little too bay-dhangi (so far). Esp., if the shalwar ki kalian are showing.

Actually I have seen pitiala shalwars in a few different styles.
Some have pleats on the piancha as well as pleats on the belt.
Others have pleats on the belt only.

Oh and I also saw someone at the airport about a month ago
with a lungi (I think that's what they should be called) shalwar with
a really short shirt. The person had just arrived from pakistan.
