Can Retina A (prescrition) & Retinol (non-prescription) be used interchangeably? Like for instance, one in the morning and other at night?
Also, could I still do peels if I am using either or both of these? Ordered 12.5% TCA and 30% Glycolic acid from MUAC and was wondering if it’d be okay to use one of them along with the creams?
Those are allll exfoliants…so please remember that as you use them.
Retin A and retinol are exfoliating your skin and a peel does the same thing except a bit more aggressively. Any esthetician you see will ask you if you’ve used any retinol products within the last month before applying a peel. If you do, they ask you to wait at least a week or more before using a peel.
Retin A and Retinol are basically the same thing. The main difference is the strength. These products, along with acids like glycolic, lactic etc., should never be used during the daytime because they make your skin VERY sensitive to the sun. This is why sunscreen usage is a must when using these. Also, as Reha already mentioned, these production along with acids exfoliate your skin so if you are aggressive with the usage, it will damage your skin.
Yes but you have to be very careful with product use “schedule”.
With glycolic and lactic acid peels, its best to not use retin a/retinol products at least 24-48 hours before and after the peel. Ideally, you should not use retin a at least a week after the peel. But if its over the counter retinol products then 24-48 hours should be fine.
TCA is a category on its own. If you do a TCA peel, do not use retin a/retinol products at least 1 week before the peel, and 2 weeks afterwards. You may need to wait longer to use it afterwards if your skin takes longer to heal. Always remember that your skin needs time to heal on a cellular level after a chemical peel so if if the skin looks “normal”…it still needs a break from other acids to heal. TCA is serious business and can seriously leave your skin scarred if you’re not careful with it. Make sure you know what you’re doing with this.
