Resume Question

Re: Resume Question

Lusi,

What's the standard for teachers? I mean... do you have to stick to 2 pages or is it just what you had in mind as a benchmark?

Different jobs and industries have different standards... I have a résumé which is 3 pages long - standard for an analyst/consulting type role and a CV which is 15 pages and counting...

In terms of what sections to keep/ditch... I'd say if the professional programs are relevant to the position you're applying for, or they speak to your qualifications and competencies, then you should keep them. Service stuff... I'd say is important for a teaching job - the section highlights the altruistic side of your personality which is a perception you need to induce in the reader's mind.

The objective may or may not be as important. In my opinion, it's something that is more useful for entry level positions... once you're in a professional field, more attention is paid to the work experience, qualifications and specific achievements in previous jobs.

I should also say that if your application is going to include other supplementary documents such as a teaching philosophy statement, then you can move some stuff from your résumé to those attachments.
