Re: ~! REsume help
yar, i really hate that period of NO or little experience. But, Alhamdulillah i’m pretty much out of it… Anyway, put any internships, coop, volunteer work if you have any. If not, then focus more on your academic projects and mention points that highlight certain skills required by the job you are applying for. This kind of resume is called ‘functional’.
I’d say, at this stage use your network. Contact people who you know, work for even under-paid but relevant job in ur career. Once u compile some experience, it’d get easier inshallah. For resume formats/samples, search online on monster etc. Here is one link i could find so far (there r tons though):
Re: ~! REsume help
in addition to this mention any academic achievements you may have received such as....graduating with honors etc...also GPA. If you dont have job experience you want them to focus on something....so academics in another way to get their attention.
Re: ~! REsume help
I BS'ed my way through my resume...
first few years are nothing but BS..
try to build up ure credentails, like ur GPA, extracurricular activities, like being treasurer of an organization if ure shooting for something in finance/accounting (which I think ure studying right?)..and just try to get a job on-campus doing anything possible..thats the best way to build up ur resume..
Re: ~! REsume help
Like everyone else suggested, highlight other areas and try to draw relevance from education, volunteer experience, and other relevant skills that you might have.
I'd however stay away from functional format and stick to combined format.
Btw... what is it that you need your resume for?
Re: ~! REsume help
One resume for all jobs/situation does not work well. To be effective you will need to tweak your resume for every job posting you are applying for; you will need to highlight the key skills that the hiring manager/company is seeking. You do not need to have previous experience to show those skills, but you do need to show some level of expertise through either college work/project, non-paid projects for some firm or just some work that you did with your friends. But what ever you write you must be able to stand by it when the interview call comes, so don't BS on resume. A good hiring manager will catch you in seconds and you will loose an opportunity; honesty is the best policy. When hiring managers are seeking fresh grads, they are not looking for hard skills as much as they are looking for your ability to learn fast and be a hard worker.
As far as format is concerned, depending on the location (UK, US, Pakistan, Dubai, etc.) and your years/level of experienceit will change. Generally speaking for fresh graduates a 1 pager is all you need in the US.
Good Luck
Re: ~! REsume help
I was just about to open this type of thread today.....but anywayz can someoen read my resume over....someone that has written or knows what big organizations look for in a resume??? I am going to apply for Kaiser (hospital in the US) and it has many many branches and its a big organization in the west. Would anyone mind reading over my resume and giving me feedback?
Re: ~! REsume help
you can add all this in a simple format on a 2 page resume, unles the list is academia oriented C.V. length, for people who have presented/ published a lot in their field.
How ever, if u have very little or no work history, express this honestly, in the letter of interest. identify ur core education and skills. indicate a desire to grow with this prospective employer and during the interview, state
politely but firmly negotiate ur wis to work in that organization for personal growth as well as to contribute as an asset in that org.
hope this helps.
best,

Make employment up. Get a friend to be a ref. Phone line and fax, fake address, it works fine. I got myself a job like that.
