HI all,
As i get ready to leave the west coast for the east coast, I want to re-do my resume and was looking for some good websites with ideas for wording/descriptions and samples for my resume..any hints?
I guess you already know that most good job hunting websites have extensive tools for resumes... try monstor and hotjobs first.
Hi amelie,
After having experienced a myriad of work environments ranging from the purely technical to the purely managerial, from contract based jobs to salaried positions, and after having interviewed job candidates for numerous positions, I have now realized that there isn’t a one size fits all solution to making a resume. I personally have different versions that I use from time to time, and still need to modify it for the intended task. Furthermore, make sure you have the same resume’ in different formats (text, word, pdf etc.)
If you tell us:
- what industry you are targeting,
- what kind of a position you’re looking for,
- what type of prior work experience you have, and
- whether you’re sticking to the same type of position or switching to a different one,
I’m sure a lot of us can give you useful tips.
Having said that, like Faisal suggested, start with leading career websites like http://resume.monster.ca/
Dice.com is a website for technology professionals, and they also have a free resume evaluation service. Check out http://www.tunarez.com/resumeevaldice.asp
Also, a lot of colleges and universities have resume clinics and career mentors that can be utilized by the public at large for a small fees. I’d definitely suggest getting a second opinion.
Finally, check out Yahoo’s Resume index in their Careers directory:
Hope that helps.
Ciao.
I suggest you checkout wetfeet.com and vault.com.
One of hte best is linkedin.com
Thats the site you want. You can see there "samples" and pretty easily copy the lay out so you dont have to pay the folks a cent. :D
