Results V Performance

What is more important, the result of the game, or the performance of the players?

England have not impressed me at all with their performance so far, it has been pretty abysmal to say the least. Yet they have won both games they have played and that seems to be enough, or is it?

Re: Results V Performance

no its not,....

Re: Results V Performance

well, that's the main point of Dutch football and Dutch tradition: play beautiful football and perform well! (the so-called 'total football')

Rinus Michiels & Johan Cruijff have been the exponent of this philosophy, and it has been picked up by younger Dutch coaches:

  • Rijkaard: Barcelona and Holland (Euro2000)
  • Hiddink: PSV in recent years
  • van Gaal: Ajax and Barcelona
  • Don Leo: Real Madrid (& TnT :D)

it's the classical 4-3-3 set-up with the trident in midfield and point to the front (in contrast to Chelsea midfield with the point backwards)

Re: Results V Performance

In matches such as WC its the result that counts not player performance.

Re: Results V Performance

No team can claim that they are playign to their peak as yet. (after today's performance argentina can) but rest are just easing to next round hoping to peak at the right time. So yeah making an announcement is not important than grinding out a result.

Re: Results V Performance

Its the result that matters in the WC. You will remember the scores of the game at the end of the day not caring much who all scored. The games will get even better in the 2nd round when the big teams start clashing...
