Agree with the first part of your statement. disagree with the second. This is not ‘democracy’ nor is this a public verdict, atleast a good way of delivering the public verdict.
Consider the situation in any other modern democracy. Bush had made some pretty bad moves over the past eight years. He was beaten up in the media every day. Did anyone try to create a situation where outside powers or the army needed to threaten the President with a coup? Read this:
When he made bad moves, Bush/the republicans were thrown out in 2006 and 2008 through democratic processes. Not by their army chief.
I wish this had happened through a democracy strengthening route. Personalities dont matter, in the short term we are stuck with jackasses. We need the system to function lazzais faire so to speak, and train people to voice dissent through the system, not outside it. Otherwise we are doomed to keep electing this lot every few years, since there is never accountability through ballot boxes.
