Responsibility

More than 1,000 years ago, as a 10 year old girl walked in the rain, she came across one of the greatest scholars, Hassan Basri (rh.a), who said: O’daughter, please take your steps carefully, I fear that you might slip. The girl said, "My slipping would only harm me & this load on my shoulders. But your each & every step (decision) needs more care, because If you slipped (deviated) from the right path (Islam) then that loss may not be recovered. The load (responsibility) of the Ummah is on your shoulders.

The whole Ummah would be questioned on the day of judgement, for every single person to whom the truth (Islam) was not presented. Similarly every Muslim would be questioned for HIS contribution to the Ummah. The more he was blessed in this world, the more he is expected to be questioned in the hereafter. After all, we wouldn’t have been born Muslims had such a small quantity of Suhabas (r.a) not decided to take responsibility & target every corner of the world, even though with minimum resources, to convey the message of Islam. Unfortunately, today weak Muslims like me are in more need of tabligh (reminder) that the ‘responsibility’ on their shoulders is not only of feeding their own families but also of the ‘guidance’ of the whole Ummah.

Re: Responsibility

Thank you dear stp, but the question is what is the message? The message is brotherhood of humanity and not master slave relationship so that there could be peace between people or in the world.

HAAKIM, MAHKOOM, HAKOOMAT mean very different things depending on concept. Since people are used to master slave relationship therefore when we talk about haakim, it is automatically taken to mean ruler in sense of master who owns slaves. Never in the sense that master also means some one who looks after others out of free will accordimng to some sort of rules as a duty in an organisation. Hakoomat does not mean a slave controlling and driving mechanism but an organisational mechanism for service of related people, ie members of organisation, according to agreed set of rules.

The idea would be better understood if we look at words like NAAZIM, INTEZAAMIA, INTEZAAM, TAREEQA KAAR etc erc.

Because of messed up terminology the quran makes little sense unless special effort is made to undewrstand it. This is why even after reading the quran people have little ideaas to what the message is and how it all comes together like pieces of a jig saw puzzle. It is the proper understanding of the message that is of utmost importance so that we do not deliver the wrong sense of the message. If we deliver the wrong sense of the message then instead of benefiting people, there will occur much harm.

You can see how muslims still have child marriages amongst them, forced marriages amongst them, wife beating amongst them slavery and so on and so forth. Why these things happen in our society is because somehow people are not getting the right sort of message of islam instead they take islam as opposit of islam in the name of islam. This is why wrong things happen and survive and there is no condemnation of these wrong things because people think that is islam.

For example, you beat up your wife and no one is going to stop you because the quran tells them, beat your wives. For this only human rights person will speak up but that person will be condemned for telling people things against islam as they understand it.

Likewise a father will marry away his daughter at any age even a baby because he thinks that is islam. Also he can give away his daughter to anyone against her will because that is what is islam to him.

Before we take islam to others it may be good idea to study islam properly ourselves. I am not saying we should not take message to others but it has to be the right message that serves its purpose. Anything other than that is not the message at all.

I hope you do not mind me bringing these things to your attention.

regards and all the best.

Re: Responsibility

Peace Submission to Peace brother

The reference that is given about Sayyidina Hasan Al-Basri (r) and the girl is not fitting with the advice that follows from it.

The advice is correct, but the story does not fit it. First of all if everyone is responsible for the their contribution to the Ummah then why did the girl say that her slipping would only hurt her and she could recover from it, but HIS (r) slipping would not be recoverable?

The clear reason and wisdom behind this story is to do with levels of accountability. As a girl she has no dependents, as a female she has no duty to provide for her family, her only concern is to remain careful for hurting herself and if she would fall she would recover from it. She in turn said that HIS slipping would be more harmful because HIS position in society was greater since people followed him and he was a scholar, if he "slipped" then others would follow and if he recovered i.e. came back many others would remain "slipped". She was known as the girl who taught Hasan al-Basri (r).

It does not take away at all the other statement that everyone will be accountable, but a special caution needs to go out to those people who want to be rich, famous, powerful and influential. They will have greater accountabilty to do good. They need to stay on the path more closely.

Re: Responsibility

^ Beautifully said. I totally agree brother. JazakAllah khair for bringing my attention to this valuable point.
