Please correct me if I am wrong but ‘Responsibility’ has become such a ball of fire that no one wants to hold. In every sphere of life people don’t want them held responsible of anything. Even for the actions that we do our selves. From top to bottom its same. Government blaming people, people blaming government, Wife blaming husband, husband blaming wife, some blaming their past life, some blaming their future life, some blaming in laws, some blaming out laws, some would say ‘Allah ke merzi manay tu bohat mehnat ke thee’, some would say ‘jo kerwa raha ha amrika kerwa raha ha’.
My only question is why we are always running away from our responsibilities ? Is there some mental satisfaction we get when we divorce ourselves from the things we should be answerable to ? or is it just moral weakness that no one is willing to admit ?
I think its one of the worst traits a person an have to dodge responsibiity.. I am ingraining this into my sons - if you do something wrong then you stand up and take responsibility for it. Because EVERYONE knows who done wrong. Dont fool yourselves. When you start pointing fingers everywhere and anywhere, people KNOW. Stand up like a good citizen, take your punishment and learn from it. Enda story.
Namaan You can say we have become a "complaining Nation" more than a proactive one, it has now become our inheritant triate.
If we shall see our all day talkings of the day , we can find very easily more than 95% of our conversation is about complains.
Like you said , father/Mother is complaining about his/her kids while kids will complain about their parants , same is Husband wife and the Masses and the Govt
Even Shopkeeper and the Customer.
And it have become our nature now, see to our Media all what they will see , will be only worse things and the encouraging things are brought after big efforts.
But still they do not learn or we donot learn from our/their mistakes although if we will analyse througly we can forcast the consequences like we can see in Pakistan of our past actions.
Main problem lies here the conventions we have stucked in ,see Responsible people in Authority of Govt today if will tell a lie , tomorrow their reall face comes out , and people do not vote to them like happend in USA and to many regims in Pakistan.
***In an environment which has started focusing on a "blame culture" , taking responsibility for one's actions has taken a backseat !
Responsibility entails being ACCOUNTABLE for those actions , that go WRONG ***,whether it is running a nation or working out a marriage*** !
It is a commitment to sticking by your decisions especially when things don't work out and until people stop shifting that obligation onto others , they are always going to be running away from shouldering their responsibilites.
Its not only in relationships its at work , at home , at school , everywhere !
No -one wants to be blamed for things yet they want to do things . Its not about dodging your responsibilities , its about dodging the CONSEQUENCES of those responsibilities***.

Oh my god, Namz, I was thinking exactly the same. I think the answer lies in the fact that we humans have such a big ego that we never own up to our mistakes and feel like we are above correction. It's a human trait that has gotten worse now with freedom of expression if you may.
No I have seen frustrated parents blaming even their little children for financial troubles not realizing that they were responsible for bringing them into the world. It's sad.
Shirking responsibility has become a norm, I am guilty of it too at times, if you don't watch yourself it becomes a habit because it gives an illusion of an easy button out of a sticky situation. Owning up to our own actions/words/life is the hardest thing to do.

this happens to be the perfect example of a blame game mentality that devoids us of a thing called personal responsibility.
Maybe people are finally questioning what defines our responsibilities? Why should I accept a defnition set by old ancestors in their graves who have not had to live in 2009??
All of you covered almost everything. A huge difference between developed nations and us is the way we think. I agree with PS that this blame game is little bit more in our culture and we are doing no effort what so ever to reduce it in our coming generations. From the childhood we teach our children to be dependent on Parents / Friends / Family. Or may be we are just too obedient and no one is willing to break the cycle and think differently. Whatever have been told to us by Parents, teachers, Molvi etc. we take it as a last word. If something goes wrong then we just say that, this is what I been told to do.
The kind of revolution we require in Pakistan right now, I am highly doubt it will come with this sort of mentality.
