I don’t consider them different. They are part of the bigger problem. These animals can not function without the support of intelligence agencies.
Taliban make deadly inroads into Punjab - Central Asia Online
SLAMABAD – A growing connection between Punjab-based militant organisations and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is posing security threats in the relatively peaceful province of Punjab.
“No doubt, all militant groups from Punjab have strong contacts with the TTP,” said Akhunzada Chittan, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) parliamentarian representing Bajaur Agency.
For example, three militants associated with the mid-August attack on the Minhas airbase in Kamra whom authorities have identified came from Punjab, but they might have been trained in the tribal areas, Chittan said.
What the link means
“The growing relationship in (Punjab-based) urbanites and tribal (TTP) militants is bringing sophistication in militants’ activities,” Hasan Belal Zaidi, a senior journalist who covers the Punjab militancy for the Islamabad-based Pakistan Today, told Central Asia Online.
The developing relationship is helping the militants in several respects, Zaidi said. It has expanded the network of safe havens for extremists; second, the united force of extremists has proven more capable of crimes such as kidnappings, building a broader base of funding for the militants.
“The growing sophistication in TTP activities might be due to influence of the Punjabi Taliban as they (Punjabi) are mostly educated, urbanised and culturally better off,” Zaidi said.
