It is the kind of daal that you find usually distributed at langars. In the past it was also served on mehndi etc. but people have become more show off and serve a full fledge dinner these day.
Anyway, I am looking for it’s recipe. It is chana daal, made by grinding meat (mutton or chicken) along with the daal previously cooked using black pepper as the major spice. I have tried making it in the past but it was terrible.
Does anybody have its recipe? I have searched online and have not been able to find the correct recipe.
I am not talking about haleem. It is called “bhandara daal” in Punjabi and is made only using daal channa.
We have a similar type of very tasty daal without meat which used be cooked on moharram in Karachi! That was so yummy with tandoori roti! Again the main spice was kali mirch!
I think the recipe would be very simple - fry onions, fry the meat with ginger and garlic and put some basic masala like cumin, coriander, chili powder and gram masala and black pepper - cook till tender. Boil the daal and mix with meat and add green chillies and sliced ginger!
If you're looking for the original Langar daal served in Gurdwaras in India, I can get you that. No meat in it though as they make it strictly vegetarian.

I think you are asking for Phandara recipe. Shredded meat with channa daal with haleem like consistency. I have seen it served on different occasions but never made it. But this is the recipe I once saved for future use;
