Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

I don’t live in the U.K (thank God), but I am sure their media is giving the most coverage to this incident than anyone else in the world, partly becuase of the proximity of the incident. There’s only so much we can find on the internet, so I think it is the responsibility of our Gupshup members () to keep us abreast of the electronic media’s coverage of this incident.

WE want to know what they are saying, what is the ‘general vibe’ among the analysts, among the commentators, and among the public in general.

So, start the coverage already. These are not ordinary times, rather, this will be remembered for decades, so this is YOUR chance to become part of Cricket history (). I hope this is motivating engouh for you !

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

Good thread..I am from the UK leave alone the media we people work with English people in the offices and we are already seeing the effect of this in daily lives.

This is not an accusation all you need to do is to ask other people in the UK : SKY news, BBC news 24 name any channel they are all biased.

Check the cricket message boards on the website how people are simply pointing their fingers (at the moment unfairly) onto our team. Why ? Because the UK media / press is showing as if the allegation has been proven.

People believe in whatever media says here, I was listening to an asian radio station last night and I was suprised to hear the amount of people that phoned in spoke about cricket and all of them backed Pakistani team for their stance depite the loss of the series.

This is the UK people we are talking about that are proud of their teams action.

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

I disagree. I havent heard much of BBC lately but Sky have been quite good quite reasonable to be honest. To my surprise all former english legends have strongly supported paksitan in this matter so far. However i suspect it to change in the coming days if Duncan Fletcher did really talk to Mike Procter. You can log on to http://www.wrx.zen.co.uk/alltnews.htm and see for yourself in the printed media that Hair is not the most popular figure. Yes workplace is a mess. I havent done much work since yesterday explaining and explaining tellin the same f***in story over and over again.

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

Basically in UK people see the problem as two seprate issues:

First : The ball tampering issue, where generally they seem to back Pakistan.
Second: Paksitan's protest, where majority thinks that Paksitan should have issued a statement at tea time and than carried on playing.

I think that if the ODI series is cancelled there will be a lot of bad blood between the two boards.

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

I have heard sky and bbc and if you hear carefully you will notice that both were yesterday (i dont know about today) are actually trying to make Inzimam look guilty rather than putting a light over the issue as a whole.

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

/\ /\ /......I think they have a responsibility to present case for both sides and they have to do that. But considering how much time they have given to former England players and to ramiz raja i think they have been fair. We cannot expect them to take our side but as long as they give fair coverage.
Having said that i havent herad or seen BBC at all

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

I will say one thing though. In some of todays papers it has been suggested that Asif was warned by county umpires for tempering. Now if that is true and thats a big if considering it hasnt come up before it might be the reason that fletcher asked Procter to be vigilant.

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

Just read this on BBC
Link : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/5270208.stm

"

Former Australia skipper Steve Waugh said: “He always stands by what he believes so you can’t ask for much more from an umpire.” Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper, meanwhile, dubbed Hair “the bravest man in cricket” and former international umpire Lou Rowan said Inzamam should be kicked out of international cricket for 12 months for “showing contempt for the rules of the game.”

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

www.bbc.co.uk/sport

you can find most of the stuff that is being broadcasted here there.

here is a quote i can remember from 2 days ago on sky news.

’ All this ofcourse is not england fault,it has nothing to do with them it is the darell hair and pakistan fault’

they were talking about ruining the game of cricket

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

Yar we cannot expect them to say that Pakistan was right. They are not just the broadcasters of the match they are a news channel as well and they have to stay neutral. I have noticed a certain tone in BBC's reporting but i think Sky have been quite balanced. And we know that because of the premiership's coverage they are the most watched channel. Also they have catagorically accepted that they cannot find any evidence whatsoever of tempering

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

just heard the SKY News headlines. they seem to love anything pakistani! the headlines were as follows:-

1) 11 terror suspects in london court, all of them of pakistani origin

2) searching for a man who killed his wife and 3 children. he is of pakistani **origin and seem to have fleed to **pakistan.

3) pakistani cricket team threatning to boycot the ODI

4) plane carshed in austria (dont know if any pakis involved it it yet)

wot the hell is wrong wit pakis?? y cant we just live and let live?? off course the white pple are gona hate u if u behave like this! i hope they dont stop giving permanet residencies to pakis just yet!!!

Re: Request to UK Residents: Please update us with media coverage

I heard Viv Richards interview on the radio this afternoon. He fully supported Pakistan’s stance. The interviewer tried his best to get him to criticise Pakistan but he ddin’t. In the end the frustrated interviewer said “So you support Paksitan in this controversy”. Viv said " You said it i didnt. I am just going on the facts and telling you as I see it. ". Brilliant. :k:
