U]Subject: Request of Donations for the Renovation of Blood Bank.

Patients’ Welfare Association is a non-political, voluntary welfare organization run by the students of Dow Medical College. Our association is providing basic medical facilities to the poor patients of Civil Hospital Karachi.

We feel sense of pride to report that we are meeting the demands of poor patients of Karachi by providing the following facilities completely “Free of Cost”.

**VOLUNTARY BLOOD BANK
DRUG BANK
DIAGNOSTIC LAB
T.B. FOLLOWUP CLINIC
THALLESEMIA FOLLOWUP CLINIC. **

The increase in quantum of work load over the years can very well be imagined from the fact that blood bank which use to provide 60 to 75 pints of disease free blood 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in 1993 has increase to 200 pints in 2002, which is given absolutely free of cost on exchange basis. The untiring efforts and sincerity of purpose of volunteer workers of PWA has finally paid of as today our voluntary blood bank is one of the leading blood bank of Karachi. We provide blood to hospitals all around Karachi. The donated blood is screened for blood transmitted diseases like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, AIDS and Venereal diseases. As such blood from our blood bank is reputed to be absolutely safe and disease free.

Another feather in our cap is the blood fractionating unit or the cryofuge facility which enables us to provide blood components to the patients. In this way four patients can benefit from a single pint of blood. The components include plasma, washed packed cells, platelets and W.B.C.s. This is not only resource saving but also healthier for the patients as chances of transfusion reactions are minimized.

Another important feature of blood bank is the follow up clinic for Thallesemia patients. Thallesemia is a life endangering heredity blood disease. The patients effected are treated with repeated blood transfusions. We have taken up the task of providing them with blood and drugs as par requirement, free of cost. At present we have more than 200 registered patients and the number is increasing by the day.

This would have been impossible without your generous support. We are presently working in a restricted area which is not sufficient to meet our increasing workload. Keeping in view the eve increasing demand of our services we felt a need to expand and improve our facility. Thus catering to the underprivileged patients in a better way.

To cater the needs and & requirements of an ever increasing number of patients, we have decided to renovate our existing Blood Bank in order to increase the sphere of our services.

Our organization is undergoing a CRISIS SITUATION and we require your IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE in our on going BLOOD BANK RENOVATION . You can help us by sponsoring the following parts of our project

This e-mail was requested to be posted as a sticky by X-communist so that it would get some exposure to maximum number of members. We don't necessarily want to do this with all such mails but it's a good cause so very worthwhile on this occasion.

PWA is an excellent organization. I know some of the founders of this group and although not all are involved in it now (as it is more of a student run organization) the group'swork is much needed and helps many patients on a daily basis.

Asa guys,

Please try and give the info above a quick read. PWA is in the process of renovating their blood bank so that better services can be provided to the needy and unfortunate.

If you can help, by any means, please let me know as this a good cause.

Thanks Mr.Xtreme for posting it up.

^^

I don't know why such esteemed organizations such as this one expect us to send money by a swift transfer. I am fully willing to send my contribution with a bank draft which costs me about 2 to 4 dollars. A swift transfer costs about $20. So you want want my money to go to the bank instead of the recepient?

Re: Request of Donations for the Renovation of Blood Bank

X-Communist is involved in a good project and we all know the significance of PWA's work. I have been through some very tough times since the request from XCommie. I have just now come to some stability in my life.... still not worry-free. I had begun to collect funds on my own and ask friends and family for their donations and sadqah. That amount has grown to well-over a few hundred dollars by now.

Soon as XCommie is back in Karachi, I will send the money off. I have not send money to Pakistan before and am not sure I want to use the venues listed above. I'll send the money to XCommie directly for her to take care of that.

Re: Request of Donations for the Renovation of Blood Bank

Yeah I was just going to say - this is an odd way to send money. I dont care how noble a lot of these organizations are - there is a great deal of chori going on.

They should be collecting money right at the blood bank locations.

Re: Request of Donations for the Renovation of Blood Bank

Mr Xtreme Bhai,

You can put me down for $50.00 for the Rotator ( increases the life of platelets ) 100,000, but like Arvind Bhai said, I would rather see my money go to the organisiation, rather than a Bank.

Let me know where and to who, and I will mail the check.

Re: Request of Donations for the Renovation of Blood Bank

The construction is working through at an adequate speed.

Asif Bhai, thanks for your support - really appreciate it.

PCG and aijaz, I am a student at Dow/Civil. I can personally get you the address of the student(s) holding President/Treasurer positions at the PWA if that is satisfactory enough.

Re: Request of Donations for the Renovation of Blood Bank

XCommie: Don't mention it. You asked for my help and I did all I could. I don't have many friends and not a big family here. I really wanted to collect much more then I have.

I will not send the money to the bank. Others, I can send the money to Karachi and the cost for me would be around 5-10 dollars.

If this is acceptable to others in the U.S. then I am willing to collect in Texas. From what Arvind said, it is not advisable to send money via the bank at those rates. The donations can be combined and put to affect at a greater advantage if there is a central place in the U.S. where a very afforable venu is present for transfer of funds. I have used such a venu to send money to Karachi and Lahore before. This is a money transfer company licenses by the state. They will notify the person intended to come and collect the funds. The transfer fee, listed above, makes this venue very affordable. XCommie: Let me know if this approach is workable.... as this is the only way I would want to send the money for it's assurance that I will have of safe and complete transfer OR I will send to you.
