Let’s say I have a company that I want to advertise online, what is the best way to go about it? What avenues can I pursue? What resources or books are available to help me in this quest? Thanks.

I’m sure there’d be plenty of online guides on Internet Adversting Best Practices. I took a course during my M.B.A. on e-Commerce Marketing, and the professor, Tom Vassos, had written a book called Strategic Internet Marketing - I think a lot of it would be conceptual but he sure had cool tips n tricks in the course that should be in the book.
If you ask me, my first and foremost advice to you would be to focus on Search Engine Optimization. An organic search on Google can bring you a large number of potential customers at a low per capita cost, if you can rank your company in the top 5 or 10. I managed a project for a company three years ago, and more than any other type of internet advertising, their placement on Google was what made it for them!
