Re: Republican Candidates
Donald Trump was all set to hold a campaign rally at University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion center. There was a 45,000+ signature petition by staff and students to oppose his visit. University has long had a policy to allow Pavilion rental to politicians, and in observance of that policy the university did not oppose the Pavilion being rented by Trump Campaign for political rally.
There was/is a fear that Donald Trump being himself would incite hate in one of the most diverse places within one of the most diverse cities. However, I feel this would have been the perfect platform for him to show that he can relate to all demographics. The gathering at and around the venue was not all anti-Trump. There was a big turn out of supporters as well, some choosing to drive from neighboring states like Indiana and Wisconsin to see their favorite nominee and show support.
However, after assessing the situation and fears of there being a security situation given the flaring temperaments among the opponents and supporters among the public who gathered inside and outside the Pavilion, the rally has been cancelled for the time-being. More can be read at the link below.
