Republican Candidates

Pros and Cons

The man of the months for better or for worse, and a front runner Donald Trump is a name known to almost everyone in the country. He is not afraid to let his mouth do the talking even at the expense of offending others, some of them being potential voters. He is a name well known for his blunt personality as a TV show host who gave us the catch phrase “You’re…” well we know the phrase. He has earned himself a name by building a real estate empire that expands many lands. He has the business acumen, and some might say, a good businessman is also a great politician because you need the ability to gauge others’ bluff in negotiations, be willing to compromise without losing profit, and know when to seal the deal. Will he be able to make America Great Again? It is yet to be seen, as is the case with all candidates.

Marco Rubio is considered one of the younger candidates for Presidential Bid. Rubio got one of his first major roles in politics as 1996 Republican presidential contender Bob Dole’s campaign chairman for Miami-Dade and Monroe counties in Florida. He connected with his constituents in Florida early on on the notion of his family’s migration from Cuba. This admission, and narrative has also been a critiquing point for many because Marco Rubio mixed up the dates of migration. Some would see Marco Rubio using the migration to his advantage by mixing up the dates to relate to the fact that his family migrated when Castro took over Cuban leadership. Rubio was a key figure in the congressional group — composed of four Republicans and four Democrats — who drafted a 2013 immigration policy overhaul. Key provisions of the proposal include providing a five-year path to citizenship for young undocumented immigrants brought into the country, revamping visa programs and increasing the number of visas given to foreigners with advanced degrees. source]

Ted Cruz, like Marco Rubio hails from a migrant family. Cruz was born to a Cuban father, who escaped during the revolution, and an American mother, who was the first in her family to go to college and who became a computer programmer in the 1950s. Because of Cruz’s Canadian birth, some have questioned whether he qualifies to be president. Being a “natural-born” citizen is one of the three eligibility requirements to be president laid out in the constitution. Ted Cruz prides himself as being a staunch supporter of Conservative values, and has often criticized his fellow republicans for not standing up for conservative values. Apparently, Ted Cruz favors a completely private business enterprise and to that effect he has been a opponent of Obamacare. He spoke for 21 hours on the senate floor declaring “I intend to speak in opposition to Obamacare; I intend to speak in support of defunding Obamacare until I am no longer able to stand.” Ted Cruz has had the debating acumen from his college days where he was the top debater. Ted Cruz also has the honor of being the youngest in the nation to be appointed Solicitor General of Texas, and has argued many cases before the supreme court including defense of the death penalty in Texas. source]

John Kasich is sometimes seen as the most coherent of the candidates when on the stage. Some of his actions may be seen as off the republican path such as expanding Medicaid in Ohio with the money offered under Obamacare in his capacity as Governor of the state of Ohio. He has used his faith-based values to justify using resources available in a quote by him “Now, when you die and get to the meeting with St. Peter, he’s probably not going to ask you much about what you did about keeping government small. But he is going to ask you what you did for the poor. You better have a good answer,”. John Kasich is no stranger to Presidential Races, and to the Media Campaigns for that matter. He was a presidential contender in 2000; however, five months into the race, he withdrew while endorsing then Presidential Contender George W. Bush. He has also been a Fox News host *From the Heartland with John Kasich *which ended in 2007. Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Kasich has sometimes created friction within his own party because of his adamant support for smaller government, budget cuts and reduced taxes. He is a leading advocate of a plan for a 10 percent across-the-board tax rate cut. source]

How do you see these candidates? How does each one fare when faced with the Democratic front runners? Passionate remarks are allowed, but avoid making derogatory and/or personal remarks towards each other. You are the best judges, and expected to moderate yourselves to keep the decorum a fair one. Thank you.

Re: Republican Candidates

Its funny I never followed US politics this closely as I'm doing this year despite a big involvement of my family. Reason being I realized this year that its more of referendum for the colored/minorities etc considering the enormous amount of hatred/bigotry/racism displayed by republican candidates.
Let me put up what I know and think about these candidates:

Starting from Marco Rubio, the youngest cuban-decent candidate is also termed as the robotic voice or puppet of Republican party establishment. As they say after 2012 loss to Obama, the republicans came up with Rubio and had started preparing him rightaway for next elections. But in all debates he has proved himself not different than other candidates in terms of policies etc.
He is the main representative of NRA in the senate.
As much as GOP wanted him to win, he has shown considerable failures and now there are question marks on how he is going to compete next against Cruz and Trump?

And coming to Ted Cruz who is a smart person but a very orthodox extremist christian who wants to run the country more on the christian terms than anything else. Again, he's another candidate to propogate fear and hatred. He clearly has no defined vision on how to run the country. For example in one of the debates he said proudly he would level the ME i.e. carpet-b0mb then if it comes to it. Just shows his maturity level of making big decisions.
But seeing his competition with Trump, GOP establishment may be happier with him taking as the final candidate.

And lets talk about Mr. Donald J. Trump. Dont even know where to start from but I guess now entire world knows about him so much that it actually helps. To me, Trump's success is based on the three tactics he has used
1) Fear
2) Hatred
3) Anger against Obama
Remember he was the first person in 2008 who challenged Obama's eligibility, asked for his birth cert and claimed that Obama is a muslim. And now after 8 years he is proving in speeches that Obama has put this country down the hill so there goes his "I told you so" argument. And people living in fear and full of bigotry are fully buying him.
Now he is the biggest monster of all that GOP cant even control him anymore.

And with the recent events in his rallies, the way white racist org KKK has endorsed him and he appreciated it as well, proved my point earlier that this elections is the biggest referendum for all minorities, colored people and LGBT/human rights activists.

And in the end Gov. John Kasich. One the better names among all four who have lasted. He is definitely more republican than anyone else but he is flexible and makes a sensible argument rather than screaming or yelling like others. And that has become his weakness which hasnt let him won a single state so far. We'll be hearing about his dropping out shortly.

So right now GOP is in a mess and they know it.

Most likely Trump will be their candidate unless they come up with a individual whom they back against Trump which they are considering right now.
And if the moderate people dont get their act together, Trump can be really unstoppable.

Re: Republican Candidates

I haven't followed the Republicans. To me, all are crazy. Kasich appears the most reasonable among the loonies. He did good things for the poor - Medicaid for example. But he cut funding for Planned Parenthood.

Lying Cruz as they call him is as dangerous as tRump.

Rubio stands for nothing. (Some woukd say so does Hillary)

Re: Republican Candidates

Donald Trump was all set to hold a campaign rally at University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion center. There was a 45,000+ signature petition by staff and students to oppose his visit. University has long had a policy to allow Pavilion rental to politicians, and in observance of that policy the university did not oppose the Pavilion being rented by Trump Campaign for political rally.

There was/is a fear that Donald Trump being himself would incite hate in one of the most diverse places within one of the most diverse cities. However, I feel this would have been the perfect platform for him to show that he can relate to all demographics. The gathering at and around the venue was not all anti-Trump. There was a big turn out of supporters as well, some choosing to drive from neighboring states like Indiana and Wisconsin to see their favorite candidate and show support.

However, after assessing the situation and fears of there being a security situation given the flaring temperaments among the opponents and supporters among the public who gathered inside and outside the Pavilion, the rally has been cancelled for the time-being. More can be read at the link below.

Basically wut he is doing is giving a tongue to all racists and muslimhaters.. One of a friend of my local friend posted this on my FB, “Oh oh. Trump is going to get you” ..

Ofcourse I’m not going to reply this instigation but its just getting provocative all over.

Re: Republican Candidates

Can the Republican Party force hand, and sideline Trump by instead choosing one of the other candidates as their nominee?

Re: Republican Candidates

Another wicket down.. The cuban origin candidate Rubio is gone. He could only one one county in his own state Florida, that too of Miami.

Re: Republican Candidates

I was waiting for tonight to answer this question. Trump is all over the republican party now. Even though Kasitch has won Ohio, even if he wins some super-delegates but in convention the party goes against Trump, I'm quite sure Trump is in such a position to start a revolt and party can break.
But Republicans are very smart as a party. I think in the end they'll start backing Trump. As a first step Rubio is already stepped back.

Re: Republican Candidates

In case he attains the required number of delegates, there will perhaps be no 'legitimate' way to move Trump aside. A debate will arise only if none of the candidates has the required number of delegates at the convention. At that point, the person with the most delegates will have a moral edge, but if that person is Trump, I reckon the GOP will try hard to nominate an alternate, which will fracture the GOP even more than now. I feel that if at all it gets to the point where GOP overrides Trump's majority delegate count, Trump will go independent, and that will fracture the GOP beyond belief, and will result in a certain win for Hillary.

Re: Republican Candidates

What do you guys think?

I sincerely apologize for any profanity in it. Please flag it if found to be inappropriate, and it will be removed.

Re: Republican Candidates

Trump has now spoken out on this possibility and said “there’ll be riots” if the convention stops him from getting the nomination

Re: Republican Candidates

Trump is USA's very own Altaf Bhai

Re: Republican Candidates

Can Trump sing bhai’s burqa may rehnay do? Tsk tsk.. :snooty:

Re: Republican Candidates

A lot of what Trumps says now, will get him in trouble with other branches that are there to maintain checks and balances. So if elected, Donald Trump will still need to adhere to some established laws and rules and can't just decide to undo the constitution because he can be impeached. Perhaps, we're all giving his rhetoric too much credit, and elevating him to a point where he's appearing to be a Giant.

Some people just simply are supporting him, not because of his stance on the issues or the lack of solutions to back up the rhetoric, but they feel at least he speaks his mind and says it without political correctness. There's a growing suspicion that a whole lot of Washington is full of forked tongue persons who say one thing, do another, and plead ignorance when caught. So to those who despise that behavior, maybe they see in Trump a non-conformist who's just going around unveiling everyone, regardless of how unethical, hateful, or full of false rhetoric that may be. Facts don't rule campaigns unfortunately, giving the public something they want to hear gets you the attention and we're all too familiar with it even with Pakistani elections. It's no different, just higher stakes.

Re: Republican Candidates

Today Republican's former VP candidate and current speaker Paul Ryan gave a strong statement afterwhich there are strong rumors that the GOP may bring him as the candidate against Trump in republican convention.
Personally i dont see it getting successful. If they deprive Trump of nomination the party will break, and they know it!
