Mary Barra, the current Executive Vice President, Global Product Development for General Motors and widely believed to be a leading candidate to succeed current GM CEO Dan Akerson, has been named to the Fortune’s Top 50 Women in Business](http://money.cnn.com/gallery/leadership/2013/10/10/50-most-powerful-women.fortune/29.html?iid=MPW13_lp_arrow1) list for the second year in a row.
Barra dropped a few places, from 27th in 2012 to 29th in 2013, although she is the highest ranking woman in the auto industry to make Fortune’s list. The 51-year-old exec continues to pick up accolades for her leadership at GM, as Forbes named her the 35th most powerful woman](Mary Barra - General Motors) on the planet earlier this year, a jump of six places over her 2012 ranking.
Fortune cited GM’s successful string of launches under Barra’s watch, with specific mention of the excellent Chevrolet Impala and the new, 2014 Corvette Stingray. The business mag also touted Barra’s revamp of GM’s product development process.
