Mercedes-Benz has big plans for its new front-drive architecture. It’s already rolled out the A-Class hatchback, **(http://www.autoblog.com/tag/mercedes+b-class/) minivan, GLA crossover and CLA four-door coupe. It’s not about to stop there, but according to the latest reports, it won’t go that much further, either.
Car and Driver suggests that the next (and potentially last) variant to join the family will be a CLA Shooting Brake, similar to the treatment Benz applied to its up-market counterpart, the CLS. And like the CLS Shooting Brake, unfortunately the long-roofed CLA wouldn’t be likely to make it to the North American market, adverse as we tend to be to wagons.
Sadder still is that Mercedes has reportedly scrapped plans for an SLA roadster to spin off of the same platform. Instead, Daimler will roll out a [new convertible](http://www.autoblog.com/2013/09/30/mercedes-s-class-coupe-convertible-confirmed/\) at the opposite end of the spectrum, spun off of the new S-Class. That clearly won’t be targeting the same potential buyers as a entry-level roadster, but will help the Silver Star expand its stable of convertibles by one more.
